This is actually Nacimiento-Fergusson Rd

A little out of the way but great riding, good camping (except for the flies), and awesome views.

Ah, yes, another great one. I was visiting from TN and felt like I was cheating with the latest butler maps. No need for gps tracks and weeks of route planning....just follow the pretty colors on the maps and end the day in the national forest for camping.

Thread jack over. Last thing I did to my 950 was look at the photo provided by the guy I sold it to. Already contemplating an /08 990.

Pulled the forks apart to swap the recently installed green wp oil seal for the old style black seal.. as I believe (really hope) that caused my forks sticking.. I'll reinstall the forks to the bike later and see if it made any change.. As always, my KTM dealer was kind enough to lend his shop and tools for me to carry out the job:)

New Horn

I got tired of no one hearing my wimpy 990 ADV horn so it got replaced with something bigger. The new horn wouldn't begin to fit in the stock location so I put it in the left upper where the canister used to be.

That lump next to the horn had to go so it was Dremmel time.

The lumpectomy left a big hole that weakened the panel so I added an aluminum stiffener which got bonded to the plastic. I'll keep an eye on it and if it de-bonds I'll pop rivet it in place.

The horn as installed. The horn wires actually exit from the left side of the harness and normally cross over to the stock horn location so they were plenty long enough to reach the new horn location.

No I can command some respect at those rare moments when I hit the klaxon button.

Stubby Turn Signals

Since I had the front Tupperware off to replace the horn (see previous post) I decided to do something about the turn signals which had a bad habit of breaking off when I augered in.

My son had some Proton turn signals that he was going to put on his GSX-R 1000 but I snagged them before he had a chance to install them.

I cut off the stock turn signal at the first rib. This is just above the end of the embedded metal mounting stud.
The Proton has a very small mounting stud maybe 4-40 or M3 so I drilled a hole just a little bit smaller than the stud at the back edge of the cut off stalk.
This let me press the Proton mounting stud into the hole where the friction of the rubber held it in place.
A couple of one ounce packets of SUGRU air curing silicone putty filled the gap and provided a smooth surface.

Sorry I didn't take pics of the actual modifications. I was afraid he would catch me using his Protons and take them back.

The ACC2 connector was getting to be rather busy with the addition of the Protons since they require +12V along with the stock turn signal wires. I had already added a digital voltmeter and one of our TAPP all-weather USB power ports to this connector. The solution was to make this splitter with a mating spade connector on the ACC2 end and four shrink jacket bullet connectors on the other. The GND side splitter only needed two bullets as the turn signals are grounded with the stock wiring.

Here's the finished setup running in the "strobe" mode.
