How many miles so far? How are they holding up? There's a thread from a couple of fat Texans on fat Beemers (kidding ) that managed to destroy a rear in a thousand miles or so. Do you think you can manage 3k Miles?

I honestly don't know. It's been 200 miles so far, but I will report back. I'm really not heavy on tires because I'm a cheap bastard, but I have to say it helps to ride in soft sand the whole time.

The Karoo 3? Those seem to wear fast down here. Heavy bike + heat + heavy throttle + chip seal "pavement" means tires wear fast down here.

We have a guy with one on the back of his 1200gs (non-adv) that's showing more wear at 300ish miles than i'd like. He's not as ham fisted with the throttle as Slowoldguy (the guy you're probably talking about) so hopefully he can get 2000 miles out of it. SOG took his off and threw it away around 700 miles iirc.

ya i'm shocked by how much more room i have. the snap out is a huge plus in my book as well. that stupid glove box was designed by engineers and obviously not by riders.

everything is done and just needs to be buttoned up. i keep running out of time and having other things added to my list of shit to do. funny how that happens huh?

hope to get it all back together and the MAP loaded withing the next day or two. cant wait to fire it up and go for a spin.

laters,

laramie

Replaced a front brake pad pin, that was bent and binding the pads up.
Also, adjusted the chain.
yeah yeah pictures or gloves covered in grease.

Tomorrow, hard cases and mounts on the new rear racks. Then a short 3 state trip!

No the Kenda K784 Big Block: a cheaper version of the TKC-80. I've found them for about $40 less than the TKC, but if they don't last much it might not be worth it...

I've read about the new Karoo 3, a bit spendy at around $180 (the 150, not the 140!) and doesn't seem to last much either. For the same price I can get a Heidenau K-60 or a Mefo Explorer which should be nearly as good but wear much better.

That's the guy, him and ghostrider (I believe) pretty much killed them in a day or so... I understand that was pretty much an extreme case, searching ADVRider i found a person with about 3K on his KBB from a 'Strom. So I'm curious as to how they wear on a 990, and it looks like GJ990 might show us where the upper end is.
