No... seriously folks...
I knew what you meant regarding both meanings of the "challenge" part.

I have been there a couple times. Once in the truck and once on the XR. I've been wanting to place the tag up there, but a little further back.

I lost momentum going around the second(?) rocky switch back and the XR took a little downhill nap. I've been both ways from that intersection. To the left only goes about 1/2 mile and kind of peters out. The Right goes back a long ways, past some nice camping spots.
Its a shame it isn't open year round.

I better get out in the garage and start working on the XR.

Nice Video 5 Punks D

Yeah, I could not believe that someone else had not Tagged back there but did not see the tag on the map.

At least my tag is a bit more difficult. Where 5 Punks D went straight at 9:40 on the video, this new tag takes the left and heads up hill.

Looks like he enjoyed the whoops at 8:40 +

The last time I was back there was 2 or 3 years ago and the uphill track was much rougher then than it is now. It looks like someone ran a small dozer through there since then.

On my older paper maps (remember those things?), the straight ahead option where the old tag was located looks like it used to go on through to Cedar Creek. I wonder if we could persuade the GW Forest Rangers to open that up for us sometime?...Maybe I'll scout from the other side and see whether it's still accessible from there.

Still it's a great ride.

The route all the way through to Van Buren along Cedar Creek has been closed for many years. I've hiked along it a few times. It would be more of a trials type ride now in places. There is a ton of good riding back in that area up on top by the WV/VA border. Some of it still open, much of it closed. :(

The route you took up the mountain is a new route they put in 15 years ago or so. The old route up to the top makes a left off the lower road about a mile before you get to where you made your left. It was a seriously fun route but was getting badly torn up so they re-routed traffic by creating the new route up and gated the old one. :(

Like you said, still a fun ride though and there is more to discover yet further in but I'll not spoil it... ;)

Tag! Gorgeous day to ride. I wish I had more time to explore that area today. I was a wee bit concerned with the description of the area with this rear tire but it wasn't a problem at all.

And we had Ali along for the ride..

He only has a 950, not a 990, so your word is still good. Nice job Boatman! You were busy today tagging and running down errant taggers(figuratively).
