Kalich Leaner - "Build"
After months of waiting for my build date, my Kalich leaner is waiting for a flight to the USA. It should be here in a week or two. Once it does arrive, I'll be back here to post the details. Until then, this is all I have to go on.
There are two boxes, this one open below, plus the taller box right behind it has the frame. ![]() And now loaded up into the truck... ![]() Now, it sits somewhere, waiting to board a plane. Stay tuned... |

I got a great call this morning from a shipping agent in Denver.
The s/c was picked up by truck on Tuesday in Germany, and will be arriving in Denver (Air Cargo) on Thursday afternoon. So, I'll avoid the freight forwarding and just pick it up from Customs on Friday!! Then, for 2-3 weeks, my painter will be doing some magic on the tub and the extra set of plastics for the bike. Now, I just have to settle on a paint scheme... hmm.... |

You COULD have asked for a Concrete shipping date ....
But, NO - now you've gotten: (Please forgive me God ...) 'Ash-Falled....' Cheers - hang in there, unlike Mother-in-laws, volcanoes don't erupt forever - Jim |

I can't believe a little ash could put a stop to this cool project. It's just not right.

I'll gladly wait a few extra days, instead of waiting on a ship. |

Mac,
Can you provide any information about your dealings purchasing the Kalich sidecar. Does it come with a bolt on subframe? How did you find the negotiations working from Germany? Were there many options? What is an approximate cost? Thanks for any help. |

While I'm still waiting for my shipment, due to the Iceland volcano, it looks like things are breaking free a little bit. I'll be crossing my fingers, hoping the boxes fly as planned tomorrow. As of this moment, Lufthansa 446 is still scheduled to fly, but we'll see ...
So, to answer those questions: Does it come with a bolt on subframe? Yes, there is a bolt-on subframe. Ralph calls it the "helper" frame. How did you find the negotiations working from Germany? I'm a trusting guy. I lived in Germany for four full years (2002-2006) and have an established degree of general trust of German businessmen, especially those with a solid reputation as Ralph Kalich has. I have had no qualms in dealing with Ralph. Ralph does a great job in communication. He always answers questions via email in a timely manner (less than a day) and has been great to deal with. He accepts wire transfers, and I don't know about other methods of payment, as I didn't ask. For me, this was a cash deal. This kind of purchase wouldn't be a good candidate for a collateral-based loan. To finalize the build date, Ralph needs a €1k deposit. Prior to shipment, the balance is due. Were there many options? There are a few options available. Some are exclusive of each other. I went with most of the options, except paint. See price list below. What is an approximate cost? With my selected options, including air cargo ( €650), but not painted, mine is just north of $9k. Yes, I know I could have had a whole Ural, but then I'd have to drive a Ural around (sorry Ural guys, they aren't my bag). The price list is here: http://www.kalich.de/html/preise.html Note the prices are in Euro and include 19% VAT. If you're out of the EU, you can deduct that, but you get to buy the Euros at the going rate. |

Matt, it should be on its way
![]() P.S. He means "subframe" P.SS. I ordered mine while overseas as well and met him for first time when I picked it up. No problems there. |
