most of my crashes is when i stalled the bike, especially on a tight turn or switchback. i blame the 15/42 set up on the 3 bikes...... next is operator error....
Joel, when you put the 14 on the front, you'll get enough slack in the chain to go up at least 2 teeth in the rear. Imo your TW will net you the most from the class and you need to do nothing to it. Electric start, easy to get your feet to the ground, easy to pick up and the thing has a first gear low enough to pull stumps from the ground ! Bring that TW out to Rowher a few weeks in a row after Jimmies class and you'll enjoy your new found confidence while riding that bad ass 640E with real dirt gearing.

To answer some of the questions here...

Smaller bikes are better, this is true, but that TW has the fat wheels, right? That might be like cheating on some of the balance drills!

Lower gearing (14T) will help and make it easier on the clutch, but it isn't something I would stress over.

Heather has been out of town and will get back to everyone as soon as she returns.

Taking what I ride

I know that it would be MUCH easier on a smaller bike, I figure I want to learn to ride on what I have. Besides I've already have the crash bars .
KTM 990. the course on their calendar says Sunday & Monday but the registration says the 8th & 9th (Sat Sun).

It is definitely Sun, Mon.
That should be 9,10.
I'll try and get that fixed.

Wife and I are bringing the small bikes (XT225 for her and DRZ for me) so we're going to drag the toybox up and camp on-site. Call me cheap, I own a BMW.

I took JL's class about 4 years ago on the GS. No crash and burn allowed.
We'll see you there.

Hey Mark, are you in this picture? I took the class in May, 2007 on my 650 Dakar in Primm, Nevada. I believe most of the guys had bikes 650cc and up?

Jimmy taught the class on his 1200GS Adventurer.

I'll be there May 15-16 Keysville, on a G650 Xchallenge. If anyone is riding up and wants some company, let me know. -Bob
