Howdy. I am planning a GS ride for my local club (BMWBMW) and will post it here as soon as I set a date. It will be all on county roads in Northern VA trying to stay on gravel as much as possible. I think it is something like 140 miles to cover 20 miles as the crow flies. Probably shoot for early/mid November.

I either read or was told that Loudoun County has the most miles of state/county maintained gravel roads in the Commonwealth of Virginia. My goal is to ride them all before the developement takes over.

So far the only gravel road that has been paved and is more fun now than before is Lime Kiln Rd. It connects Rt 15 to Snickersville Turnpike. It is one hell of a fun stretch of pavement with banked curves and elevation changes. Runs along a creek.

The others that have been paved are now 4-lanes going back into some new housing development. Wouldn't want those SUV's to get dirty driving on gravel now would we.

I have not done much exploring in the Baltimore area. I know MD has some pretty good paved two lanes though.

Im near columbia. A bit south west of Baltimore.

What type of riding you want to do? Heavy duty trails? Or just gravel roads?

Dual sporting could mean many things.

Why don't you head down here Sunday, im taking my xr650r for a spin. Some water crossings, gravel roads, twisty roads and if you want, a nice wide open trail. No single track for me right now that im on street tires.
