love the GPS aspect of the Contour but I wonder if You Tube or any other host will be able to read the GPS map too? I just upgraded to a Contour + for only shipping costs. Traded my GPS unit in because I really wanted the external mic. just have to go by a mic now but they are cheap.

I always edit my videos and because of that you lose the GPS map...I also wonder if that can be fixed to work with editing...Love to ride that pass one day!

I don't know if anything has changed but FCP used to be able to edit the video without killing the metadata. I have no idea if FCPX will or not. If I get time I'll give it a test this weekend. If you are using windows there are a couple of options in the link above that might help. I think there are a couple of other threads on Contour's forums that talk about exporting the text track (aka gps info) and later importing. No idea how they sync up the edited data.

As for Youtube, your screwed. Same with Vimeo. If you want to keep the map while using a online site, uploading via Storyteller is the only solution that I am aware of.

Traded my GPS for a + a couple of months ago. I love the + Been using my Bose iPhone earphones as the mic but need something better for under the helmet.

great info...I just got the + too...was able to trade my GPS model and upgrade for free...not sure why but good deal for me. I ordered this mic

https://www.amazon.ca/Technica-ATR-3...4846010&sr=8-1

but I only paid $40 CDN...

did a test run today and just going to split the video because I almost recorded my whole commute home and need to cut it down...nice video quality and I can not wait to try out the mic in my helmet. Too bad we did not have this for our last 44 day trip we just got back from. I got the offer but we were all ready on the road. Better late then never!

I'll be watching your Youtube channel for some samples with that mic. Very interested. Yeah it's too bad no AK videos with the + but you'll have it for the next adventure.

because we need some time to save money for the next BIG adventure...we will most likely ride the Washington and Oregon Back Country routes next year! Contour + video test being loaded on the Contour site and I'll make a test for the Tube.

The Nevis Track - New Zealand

Last Christmas we shipped the bikes (F798's) to New Zealand and spent four weeks exploring the as much of teh back blocks as we could find.

Started at teh Southern end of the Nevis Track at about 3:30pm got to the other end at about 8:30 just as the light was fading and after 27 river crossings - what a ride.

Sal RIdes the NZ rivers from Mike and Sally on Vimeo.
