Adam,
just got a new Shoei GT Air. Damn, this helmet is quiet! Enough to make me consider speakers, rather than earbuds. I've often thought speakers with good music earplugs might be the best compromise with ease of use, but helmets have always been too damn loud. Thinking this might be the one.

Anyway, have you fitted speakers into the GT Air yet? The helmet has a cutout for speakers. I'm just wondering if they're in the correct location and if its worth trying? I don't own any speakers to try, and rather not purchase if it won't work.

The other thing that has me considering this option is that the helmet is so snug to get on, it pretty much rips my buds out when putting the helmet on. Love the snug fit, but I can tell already its going to be a PITA to deal with everyday. No wires will be much simpler.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Jim

CURSE YOU!
I was happy as hell with my Shoei Qwest until I read your post and saw the GT Air was announced without me seeing it....

Ok ... seriously ... yeah ... the Qwest is so snug that earbuds are not really and option as the wires get tugged on too much...

I have the SMH10 and use ear plugs and find the there is plenty of volume. the GT Air should be even better in that regard.

Liner system is different, but both have the depression area for speakers so I think you'll be OK. note that at least with the Qwest, the depression/pocket is bigger diameter than the speaker which is GOOD because you need to get the speaker centered over your ear canal.
In my case I ended up with the speakers up & back a bit from center ... YMMV...

I'm sure Adam will be here shortly with more details!

I know there's no news on the 20s yet, since I don't have an email. But have they released an eta? Just wondering if I'm waiting for soon or summer.

Supplier called us and said they are ready accept our orders, so that's a good sign. We are going to order a good number. If past Sena launches are an indication, the first month or so the supply will be limited, so I'm not sure how many we'll get right off.

So stay tuned. We'll know pricing in the next few days W O O T !!

Jim:

Haven't done a GT Air that I can recall, but since you are not so far away, how about zipping up here to the shop? I am confident that I can fit the Sena or better yet, the Tork X-Pro speakers to your helmet, and you'll be comfortable with the fit - and the sound.

I've fit headsets into hundreds of helmets, so I don't expect any obstacles that can't be overcome.

But do you know what the differences are between this new one and the prior models? I haven't been able to find any info.

Never mind. Technical info is on their website. Sounds like a great, powerful device.

Let's see about pricing.

I'm closing in on 3 years of very happy ownership of the SMH10. There's been no problems whatsoever with the two I have, and their practice of adding functionality in updates is unparalleled. What other 3 year old device has the manufacturer making significant updates?

FWIW, it's seen a lot of rain with no problems too.

The one issue I really have had is the size of the unit leading me to hit the jog dial with my shoulder periodically. I think the 20 will fix that with it's lower profile so I've added myself to the pre-order list.
