VStromming from Cheaha State Park - any routes?

In a couple of weeks my buddy and I are meeting at Cheaha State Park for a two-day ride.

We will be staying in the park and looking to ride about 6-8 hours per day. He will be on a Harley and I will be on my Strom.

We are looking to ride well-paved, twisties with stops for breakfast, lunch and dinner thrown in.

Can anyone give me some ideas on routes to ride from there?

If we can get there by riding back roads, I would like to visit Barbers Museum too.
Thanks in advance!
Rick

not to familiar with N AL, but I have done some exploring down that way since my sister moved to B'ham a few years back. I can tell you the area east of Huntsville is very nice. There is a route that goes basically north (sorry I don't have a map here to look at) up thru Al to Huntland, TN. That is a nice road. Also Barber's is definitely worth the trip, no matter what route you need to take.

Just get a map and look for the squiggly lines. Only use a GPS in emergencies (I need gas now!) and you will have a good ride.

Good luck to ya.

Little River Canyon is not too far north and has some good twisties, hills and scenery on the west side of the of the canyon.
Cheaha Rd is a good road right there in the park has some really good twisties.
If you were looking for dirt or rock there are lots of that with good scenery. The V would handle most of these, but I don't know about a Harley.

Cheah SP to Barber Park

You guys are going to love Cheaha - it is one of my favorite spots and almost in my back yard.

To get to Barber on back roads from Cheaha take AL 281 (scenic hwy) down the Mt (west) then turn right at first opportunity. This is the old original road out to AL hwy 21 - takes you by the lake at the bottom of the Mt. Go south on 21 towards Talladega - then navigate onto AL 77 north, towards Lincoln - just out of Talladega about 3 or 4 mi turn left on AL 34 towards Pell City - in Pell City you will take US 231 to old US 78 - going west out of town on US 78 take a left on Wolf Creek Road - this is a St Clair county road - continue west into Shelby County - intersect AL 25, turn right - pass 29 Dreams Motorcycle Resort - continue into Leeds AL - follow old US 78 west to the intersection of I-20,(don't get on I-20) at the Bass Pro Shop turn left - entrance to Barber is next right after Bass Pro.

Hope you enjoy the ride!

Mount Cheaha.

If you had come this way back in March, I would have shown you around that area. I used to work at the park. I drove up and down that mountain for over 4 years.
But, I'm living in Arizona now, having moved here back in April.
There is a back way to Barber's that goes over the big dam, just outside of Talladega in the community of Alpine.
After you cross the dam you turn left and head over to Hwy 25, near Vincent AL. Been that way probably a hundred times, as I am currently a member of 29 Dreams resort. But I've never paid much attention to the road numbers.
Cahoona uses the GPS thing, so he should be able to direct you accordingly.
