Sizzling Spit? Not much of a test. Spit will sizzle off at any temp much over 230 F. That's not very hot for and air cooled motor. I would be more inclined to check oil temperatures.

I wonder what guys who work on bikes like the new Multistrada or the S1000RR think about an internet discussion about tuning bikes with a spit test?

I say this having sat between two bikes and alternately spitting on each one to determine if mine was running too hot

Maybe we should put together a piss test where we all get our bikes good and hot, then start pissing on them to check for correct operating temperature.

I'm gonna piss on my neighbors Harley tomorrow and let you know if it sizzles too.

yeach, that will stink.

but yeah, water should boil off your airhead - i count on it to get the water out of those little divots in the cylinder heads-- get her nice and hot and it will just boil away.

I got the spit test from my VW's. 230 is getting too hot for my VW bus. Oil starts breaking down at those temps. What size nuts should I throw in the tank. This chemical stripper to get rid of the old liner is better at taking off the paint off the outside than it is at getting the liner off of the inside (since it expands and you cant cork the openings,it is difficult to it it everywhere inside). So back to the spit thing, what is the acceptable operating temp for an airhead. Sounds like they can run hotter than an aircooled VW boxer.

Normal oil temperature on an airhead is in the 250 to 275 degF range. An oil cooler can get you below 225 degF. Not abnormal, use a quality 20W50 oil and don't exceed the oil change interval mileage.

If he ain't the typical poser, something other than yer pee-pee is a-gonna be sizzlin'...if he's one of those fools that wear a skull face mask in 95 degree temps, you got nothin' to worry about...or if he's wearing anything like a doo-rag...
