Hey Doug,

The last RR was Great... Looking forward to this one as well.

But, hey! Stay safe out there!

PS: A few gratuitous wet t-shirt shots would be okay as well.

The super rally 2010 has started and I have tried to find Dougs bike amongst the thousands of Harleys that have shown up for the event .......... unfortunately the weather changed from awesome and hot to crappy and raining.

I hope the Harley guys still have a good time though.

Waiting patiently for an update.

in Ukraine

rwtD-
I just found this thread - like maybe it was lost?, nah never mind. When in or near Kyiv (capital) I know some folks there who could give you a hand with stuff if needed.

Since you are almost there, just north of Kyiv is Chernobyl. There are tours there now - not very long, I think about 2 hours max. Neat place to see what can happen when WTF won't even come close...

Also, there is a Ukraine (old USSR) tank training place north of Kyiv. They rent out a T88 tank for an hour and you can drive around their obstacle course. I can't remember the name of it. And BOY!, there are some major military (outside) museum-parks in Kyiv. Photo ops.

I know a few good 6ap (bar in russian), but you may not be interested in those...

Watch out in Poland and other places that are flooded to the max right now....

Keep the shiny stuff up and oil in.

I made it to Patras, & happened to meet up with quicktoys today.
I've actually had a few people on the trip so far that knew me thru ADV, my webpage, or my stories in The Horse.

Finally got sunny & warm here, riding north tomorrow, will upload pics sometime soon.

Doug

amateur.. everyone knows lesbians come from Lesbos. Jahwol! bookmarked, i guess.. you will be traveling through my motherland pretty soon. that bordercrossing into Montenegro is spectacular.... Oh wait, you are crossing into Serbia, according to your map. Still, you are going through Tara canyon. I'd skip Serbia and head straight for Durmitor.

Be careful traveling through Bosnia. The roads suck -- full of potholes; there will be unmarked bumps in the road; people pass in corners on double yellow.. but since you have been through most east Europe -- you already know this.

Carry on, comrade!

I went to Iran on a bike in 2007. I had no problem with getting a visa BUT i didn't know you also need a Carnet de Passage (en Douane) for your bike. They wanted me to enter Iran WITHOUT my bike and I would take it back when I finish my trip in Iran. Idiots I had to bribe them so they finally let me in but on the Turkey-Iran border I spent 25 hours or so.
A friend of mine went last year on a bike to Iraq and had absolutely no problem on the border. No visa necessary.

If you happen to be in Georgia (most beautiful country I ever saw) try the norhern part of it. It's called Svanetia and I do believe it's going to be hell on a bike that is far away from enduro bikes, but trust me it's worth going there.

Have a fantastic trip!!
