Garmin 276c questions (uploading files)
I'm trying to install a .gpx file of the Continental Divide onto my Garmin 276c. When I purchased my 276c all it came with was a USB cable and a wall charger.
At first I tried to just plug the GPS into my computer with the USB cable, but luck. Then I remembered that I usually have to have the driver, so I downloaded it. Now when I plug the GPS into my computer the GPS' screen says "USB Connected," so I know that it is now plugged into mu computer. How do I now transfer files into the GPS now? Is there some programe that I need that I am missing? I'm planning on leaving in about 3 weeks, so I need to figure out some solution to this. |

Yeah, Garmin Mapsource, although there may be some 3rd party software that will work. You don't just load .gpx files directly to a 276C. 3 weeks is nowhere near enough time to figure out a GPS.

All I need for this trip is to upload the file and follow the trail. I am not really looking to know all of the ins and outs of the system. |

you have to have Mapsource to load tracks into your unit, either borrow a copy from someone of buy a mapset.
You will open the 'gpx' file in mapsource and then select ' send to gps' and it will install the tracks, I believe the 276 holds 15 tracks @ 700 points each. You can filter, combine etc in Mapsource. Garmin Training Center then you can run the update

![]() Unless you plan to spend a lot of time between now and then, don't rely on the GPS as your primary navigational aid on your trip.
