Could this be installed upside down on the front forks a la Rally bikes? Thoughts?

(Thinking of installing it on a BMW Xch)

Anything is possible, I could send you the dimensions, you transfer them to a piece of cardboard and play around with it, if we need to change it up some,,,, we'll do it.

Danny

Durability

Hey there everyone. Great looking piece of kit. I'm looking for an option to cool my xr600. This year I plan on running the LA B to V. I don't want to worry about heating issues. Has anyone from the desert used one of these? How do they hold up to high speed rocks? How are they when they get caked in a bit of mud? Still adequate heat transfer (possibly through a sink like the skid plate?). Just looking for some long term reviews from people who ride in the dirt Thanks everyone.

awesome!

cool product!

is that mounted to the XRs only skidplate?
also, what does the backside of the cooler looklike, is it flat, and does it lay flush against the skidplate? if so i was wondering if a guy couldnt put some thermal paste behind the cooler and use the skidplate like a larger sink. i ride in ALOT of mud, and the front would be caked over in only a few mins.

awesome product, and im abou 90% about getting one if you still have them!

The cooler I received a few days ago is smooth on the back. It fits flush against the skid plate, as it secures the skid plate to the bike. I might give the thermal paste idea a shot. I think I have a tube of the generic stuff around here somewhere. The skid plate I will be using with the cooler is linked below. The vent holes in the plate will decrease the mating surface available for thermal transfer.

I just put vanpelt999's cooler on. Easy enough with his good instructions. Everything fits, nothing leaks and after the engine has run a bit you can feel the skidplate heat up as he designed it to do. I'll try it out tomorrow on a long ride :)

I like the rugged design of this oil cooler. Has anyone ridden with this oil cooler in cold weather? I ride in winter with the temperatures slightly above freezing, and I wonder if the oil temperatures will be too cool with this unit.

Spud

Its a year round setup, 17 degrees 10-15 mile run stock gearing, 60 mph, fingers ready to fall smooth off,,,, oil temp around 200 degress.

Spud it's truly a pc. you put on and forget about it,,, no need for any silly bypass, no cutting cardboard to block airflow. just ride
