Are the dirt/gravel roads in the fort open for dual sports? What about the roads behind Fort Ord? Any other good trail riding around Monterey?

You can ride through Fort Hunter Liggett to get to Naciemento Fergusson Road. You have to have your driver's license, registration, and proof of insurance (all up to date) to get on the base.

Don't know about Ft. Ord.

Here are a couple of shots from my ride thru the base:

And, here are some shots from Naciemento Fergusson Road.

I was there July last year. (Ride Report http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=480975)

All the dirt roads I passed in the base were posted, indicating no access to non-base personnel (due to live fire exercises and all).

I also tried to ride some of the dirt roads in Arroyo Seco State Park. I was advised by the ranger that the roads were closed and gated, due to conservation efforts after the last wildfire.

I was able to find some open, and accessible roads west of the Fort, in the Los Padres range. They were nothin' special, but a nice change of pace.
