But ultimately the tracking mode shows that you stopped moving. if i stop riding for a beer/snack/shit and i forget to push OK, i don't want my gf/wife calling the sheriff to send out a SAR.

That's when having a wife, girlfriend, and/or others is handy. they're handy for blowjobs and to look at.

I don't find it comforting that someone watching my Spot page may consider calling 911 if I spend too long stopped. I get it - I have a wife & kids - but at some point you have to do your best to be responsible and able to deal with tragedy while restraining the urge to strive for ultimate security. There are other less adventurous endeavors for men interested in that.

Unless it's vanity you're interested in - some people use and advertise their Spot pages for just that. Get over it & ride.

and this has been said before. DO NOT RELY ON SPOT AND SAR TO SAVE YOUR ASS. be self sufficient. tell someone when/where you are going to ride/camp/party so they have an idea. and ride within your limits. don't go Kurt Caselli out there by yourself.

what did we all do just a short 5 years ago before SPOT???

SPOT is great. but has it's limits.

ACR has an OK button on the recent models.

that DeLorme is a good altenative as well. but it's pretty similar to a SPOT.

SAT phones and ACR's are the way to go if you really think you're going to die out there.

(and yes, yellow fucking type. get over it. )

I like my Delorme Inreach, two way texting has been very useful and surely would be in the event of a non-life threatening emergency/breakdown while solo. It works as advertised, as does tracking and the option to send 3 different predetermined messages right from the unit. Battery life has been great, being able to track all day everyday with a few text messages in the evenings without changing batteries for over a week at a time.
I've carried a SPOT since they first came out in all my solo travels around North America, had the 1, SPOT 2 and SPOT communicator, the tracking is great and gives me peace of mind, I have a plan to send OK messages at sunset from wherever I end up camping, no OK message and my family will call for help being able to know where I've been and what direction I was heading. The SPOT communicator interface with the iPhone left a lot to be desired, I gave mine to a serviceman in the Donate to Military Riders thread when I bought my InReach and haven't looked back.

Self reliance is good, having some sort of satellite communication with plans already established is also good. SPOT, Delorme, sat phone, PLB, whatever, pick your tool, it seems that having a plan that makes sense for you and the riding you're doing is the most important part to having modern day Adventures with the benefits of the new fangled tech.

Looking forward to checking out your rig dunerat, I could see how one of those beasts could be a hell of a good time.

Orange is not a primary color, it is a secondary. Red and yellow make orange, thus ktm is nothing more than miscellaneous honda and suzuki parts assembled awkwordly.

Actually... Only the paint and plastics are from the red and yellow bikes. the parts that sometimes break are made from recycled blue bikes and the ready to race parts are made of Kryptonite which we all know what that does to Superman.
