speed daddy....of course I was only joking you've done a great job.
And I'm extremely envious of your ride.

Enjoy!

Hey Rosscoact,

The headlight dose fit snugly into the new opening but I decided to set it back abit. as I was always intending on fitting the swarvy looking KTM head light protector and i didn't want it all pokin to far out the front. My faring bracket set up is fully adjustable if I want to push it forward more.

If there are any pictures you would specifically like to see...just ask.

Thxs
The fairing comes from Darren Wilson at USM Sign Manufacturers in Australia. Darren is a top bloke and their quality is very good. Cost was $300.00 au plus freight. Very reasonable compared to other manufactures...some of which were more than double the price!

Contact deatils are below if you are interested...oh an don't forget to tell him what year your 690 is!

I hope KTM remembers to give out royalties when they get around to finally doing what you've done (for them).

Wink

I like it.

Couple of questions. I copied the URL for the pics and looked at a couple of others you had taken.

Have you mounted the entire headlight unit from the steerer stem bracket you fabricated?
How did you mount or attach the fairing to the safari tank?
Do you get any buffeting that you know of from the fairing considering how vertical it is in the pics?
Does the light unit or fairing vibrate at all at speed while on smooth roads?

cheers

p.s. If you get the chance can you take some close up pics of the headlight/fairing mounts with a better resolution?

Have you mounted the entire headlight unit from the steerer stem bracket you fabricated? Yes...the 6mm al. stem plate attached by the al. clamps is very strong. Most fairings including Mecca system rally fairings are supported by a single stem bracket (which is where I got the idea from). Some like to weld the plate to the stem but I wasn't willing to risk cooking anything and wanted to keep the frame original.

How did you mount or attach the fairing to the safari tank? Fairing is indepenant of the tank.
Do you get any buffeting that you know of from the fairing considering how vertical it is in the pics? Some buffeting i'm (6',1") though. Not as bad as my 990 was!!
Does the light unit or fairing vibrate at all at speed while on smooth roads? No virations at all...even over rutted ground. I noticed some head shake though at 160 klm (100mph) in stong cross wind... but that was on test run...I don't generally ride at that speed (honest!!) so its not a problem.

cheers

p.s. If you get the chance can you take some close up pics of the headlight/fairing mounts with a better resolution? happy to when I get the chance

but wait ....theres more!

I also loved the headlight guard but was concerned it might act as an unwanted diffuser for night riding. (which I only do reluctantly). So I made this one removeable. I used some rubber electrical grommets and some PVC hose joiners....works great.

heres some crude shots of the headlight mounts

While I'm at it heres some of the 990 front guard mountings:

I used some cork spacers to mount the 990 indicators...notice I havn't trimmed them yet!

KTM dealer got it...its an OEM part...you can find it on KTM hardparts site under the 690 link.

The hose connections I used were 8mm PVC joiners cut in half....got them from the radiator/fuel stand at Supercheap Auto supplies.

Had an awesome ride yesterday....the more I get to know this bike the more I start to wonder if I've found the perfect bike (for me of course) and I've had one or two!

More pics comming...finnally got my Pelican panniers fitted and tested...they are sooooo handy! New speedo should arrive this week so will get achance to take some clearer shots of the headlight and Faring brackets for any one who's interested.
