Big difference 4 me interms of wind blast, especially at highway speeds....used to have to hang on tight at anything over 80klm..much more relaxed with the screen. I do alot of fast gravel, & open beach riding which i find it excellent for....plus I sorta got used to having one on my 990.

Other extras include better protection for GPS & catches more bugs.

hope this helps

Is that a replacement speedo for the 690, or is it a 990 version. I see the buttons and graphics have changed. I noticed the bround buttons on my speedo are starting to fatigue, pretty sure they will start to leak soon and then fall off. Do you know if the new speedo has adjustable trip meters.
Does the third button do anything. Can you provide a part number please...

this is interesting SD, your fairing is defferent to mine with a much bigger flange for the dash.

Ove ditched the tower, it doesn't work with the E headlight so we're fabbing up a frame instead. I'm going to make my dash sit on pedestals attached to the frame.

Did you close in the bottom with mesh or something to keep the rubbish out?

I'm getting my fasteners from here https://www.probolt-australia.com/Products/0005000f0003

I'll say it again, a great looking project!

My engineer-vision did notice one thing to watch though, the aluminium straps that go around the steering head to hold on the fairing/headlight/dash bracket - keep an eye on them for any cracks - aluminium is bad for fatigue cracking so even a tiny bit of flex there may lead to failure. Personally I'd use steel for those bits.

Cheers
Clint

Speedo was ordered under warranty as a replacement for 690. Came direct from KTM Austria.

I see the buttons and graphics have changed. I noticed the bround buttons on my speedo are starting to fatigue, pretty sure they will start to leak soon and then fall off. I think the graphic changes make it more readable...but not sure i like the butten replacement....its hard to press them with gloves on.

Do you know if the new speedo has adjustable trip meters. not too sure what you mean by adjustable trip meters??? you are abel to reset them easily enough.

Does the third button do anything. Third button is redundant

Can you provide a part number please. next time I take it off I'll get the part no for ya!

Biped.
Hope this helps ya out.

Did you close in the bottom with mesh or something to keep the rubbish out? still working on that one...I got all the wiring reasonable protected but don't find too much rubbish finds its way up there strangely enuff

I am keepin an I on metal fatigue but seems fine so far.....I did experiment with thiner Aloy bands but after chattin to some metal head mates went with thicker 4mm bar...time will tell how it fairs ..easy to make some spares...any excuse to play in the shed!!

the tower doesn't work with the E headlight

the fairing doesn't work with the E headlight So it gets cut

so we build a headlight support and a fairing support then start building a dash support and it starts h=getting more and more complicated. So I get into my head that 3000k+ of corrogations will shake this thing to death.

CSR and ABH is not a suitable testing ground for home-made fairing frames.

I'm going back to stock with the little touring screen, I just need some plate to mount the powerlets and uhf, gps etc.

Sod it all
