anybody run a vee rubber vrm-163 they come in a 140/80-17

I have been running the hiedenau k60 in the 140 size and it the best tire I have had on the bike good traction wet dry dirt and street Workes better in the snow and mud if you groove the center section to remove the continous band between the tread blocks next tire will be the kenda big block

We've run the Big Blocks, they suck, can't get more than 1000 miles out of them and if you play hard then expect 500 to 600 miles till their toast.

My Big Block didn't last very long either. Had to put a used K60 Scout back on (garbage tires again - yuck). Thought about grooving the scout but don't want to work that hard to make a tire work like the marketing says it should.

Just ordered a VRM 163. Should be here in a couple weeks.

According to the manufacturer's website these tires have "beeter weight carrying capacity". Wonder if the tire is as good as their spelling.....

English is definitely not their first language. LOL. Well the tire does have some good stiff sidewalls, though not as stiff as the K60 Scouts super thick "run flat" ones. Going to be a chore to spoon the 163 on this evening though.

Tires on. Here is what it looks like after a quick spin around the neighborhood. Center lugs have between 8 and 9 mm of tread. Not huge amounts by any means but they look like they will do the job.

Did about 100 miles in temps that were hovering just above and just below the freezing mark in the curviest part of our mostly flatland riding environment. Approximately 90% of that was tarmac. The other 10% was dirt road. Other than the small bit in my field there was not single track on this ride.

Definitely feels like a small round tire vs a squared off K60 or Big Block My gas mileage immediately went up about 5 mpg over both the big block and K60 Scout....ahh the newness of new tires.

On the road the tire performed like a street tire, stable both straight up (no hands standing on the pegs) and cornering on the rails. No slippage noticed. Grip was confidence inspiring. When I felt them they had just the right amount of warmth emanating from them on the cold night. Tried to slide them on the painted lines -> no slippage.

In the dirt they felt like a new TKC or Heidi (before the Heidi wears into the stability strip and stops responding in off road terrain). Grip was hands down better in the leaves on my little single track route than my used Heidi provided. On dirt roads they provided enough grip to easily do dirt wheelies and actually threw some rooster tails when I got over into the soft stuff.

In case anyone is interested here is what the dirt roads from tonight's ride typically looked like:


Still need to take the tire into mud and snow but first impressions are positive. It was nice to flick the throttle in the dirt and actually move forward vs. spin tires.

It will be interesting to see how they perform as they wear. The K60 Scout started off strong too, until I wore it down a little (like 400 miles)....then it became a piece of under-performing sheitte on both street and dirt.

Just be aware that it's a skinny tire when mounted. I compared it to the 130 that's on my 650 single this morning and the two have about the same width mounted up.

Biggest size they have is the 140 which I've mounted on my 150 rim giving it around a 90% profile.

The VRM sizes and rides exactly like what I'm looking for in a tire (so far) but might not be the best tire for everyone, especially those people who want to ride the tarmac fast and hard on big heavy bikes. I ride my F8 like I would a DR 650 or other dual sport...keeping in mind that it's set up as a compromise bike and not a road warrior bike. I choose my tires for dual purpose riding, not road racing.

yeah I realized its a smaller tire.

guys run the 140 heidenau tires on the bigger bikes, I figured it would be worth a try.

Just covering my butt for when someone who shouldn't put the VRM-163 on their bike goes and does then complains that it isn't made for a beastly big bore being ridden like it was a liter bike.

My personal opinion is that 150 tires are too wide for dual purpose motorcycle riding (and I know many may and do disagree). 140 is as big as I'd venture to go and I'm considering having Woody lace up a 130 rim for the F800.

Running 140's on my 150 rim hasn't been much of an issue because the tires I've been putting on are blocky and I don't mind when they square off. I wonder though, how that scenario might be affected by using a standard street-only tire. Don't think I'd want to try riding a 90% profile on a track.
