Easterners to SE Utah,SW Colorado,and 9 days
DAY ONE after the trip on the lonnnngggg slab I70:
The plan was to do the TAT in Colorado and part of Utah. It has ended up being a small bit of the TAT and a LOT of great riding in the areas around SE Utah and SW Colorado...so...for my Cat Herder and BDWR fellow inmates (and anyone else interested!)...here is the start of my ride report: After picking Tim (TDCIGARLOVER) up in Breezewood PA (he rode his GS from NJ and I met him there from my home in Woodstock VA) we slabbed it all the way to Grand Junction Colorado in some 30 or so hours including stops. A long way in my wife's Land Crusier but we had to be able to switch off riding since we only had 9 days for the trip and had lots to see. We also had recently changed the trip route because of snow on the passes in the rockies we had planned to cross via the TAT. Loading TD in Breezewood ![]() Denver from the truck ![]() First full rest stop..Denver...Ted's Montana Grill and Fat Tire beer with Bison Meatloaf! ![]() ![]() Finally on the road headed south on rt 141 in western colorado!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() TD has the first drop pulling off the road to take pictures. ( Note: The swamp Thing did fall over before this in a wind gust whilst parked at an overlook but we don't count that since there is no photo to prove it) ![]() While checking out TD's bike after his mishap...and truck pulls in, a young man jumps out and immediately is a good friend...he's a newbie to ADV and just KNEW that one of those fine machines would have a ADV sticker on the back. He finds out that the town we are thinking of stopping at is where he and his family lives so we are urged to take his offer of tent space in his yard and the local hospitality of Dove Creek Colorado...one of the friendliest towns in the whole world... ![]() ![]() The son ZUKEISTER1 and Dad DCZ where amazing as far as "southern hospitality" goes...and told of all the great places to ride. ZUK took us on a trip to the Delores River overlook. Great dirt over part of the TAT and while there the lightning started flashin' and then HAIL! ![]() ![]() ![]() Rick (DCZ) outside his home (where I was using his wifi to do the report) ![]() Heading on dirt west and north through the Canton's of the Ancient's up to the Lochart Basin the camp out in the BLM near the Colorado. The on to the Moab area tomorrow. I forgot to take a photo of the GPS like the pro's (XCRider ;-) but yesterday it was near 300 miles total.

Nice! Enjoy, there's lot's of good riding to be had in the 4 corners. Too bad(for the riding anyway) we had above avg snowfall in the San Juan mtns this year. Still some very nice blacktop to ride through this time of year.
How long have you lived in Woodstock? I'm from Luray, been in SW CO for 17 yrs. Lot's of good riding in the Shenandoah valley although I haven't ridden there in many yrs! Be safe & enjoy your trip!! Will |
