Les Grands Goulets

Does anyone know the status of the road through the gorge? The old entrance is totally locked at the southern end, and I have heard all kinds of rumors that:

* the old road is totally closed to motor vehicle traffic

* that just the southern end is closed and there is a new route to the road

* that there is a new road and tunnel system

Does anyone KNOW what the status is? I'd like to ride the road, but have absolutely no interest in riding a modern road that bypasses the old road cut into the cliffside.

TIA

Hello Mickael,

The "grand goulets" route, is closed. You can take alternatives path, just read this (on a french GS site) :

http://gsfr.forumactif.com/sud-f54/g...hlight=goulets.

Just feel comfortable to ask more questions about the alternatives roads of this area, there's lot of possibility.

Olivier

Merci!

I was afraid of that. I've ridden around the Vercours a few times, but would make another trip just to ride that road. Since the old road appears to be closed, I'll head in another direction this year.

But I will keep checking that page in case something happens in the next 39 days.
