1939 GM Futurline, only $425k
Seems like a bargain as the last one sold went for $4.3 million at auction in 2006.
Granted it was fully restored and 2006 money. ---- This modified 1939 GM Futurliner is one of 12 built for GM's Parade of Progress traveling exhibits and one of just 9 that survive today. These huge vehicles were used by GM until 1956, after which they were either donated or sold off. A restored Futurliner sold for $4.3 million at Barrett-Jackson in 2006, but this one is priced considerably lower. Find it here on Craigslist in the San Fernando Valley of California for $425k or best offer. Special thanks to BaT reader Myron V. for this submission This particular vehicle apparently is Futurliner No. 9, which was converted into a custom motor home by owner Bob Valdez. According to this website, Valdez bought it in 1984 and made many modifications to the interior and exterior, turning it into a unique highway cruiser. The website shows a rear seating area and a bar added by Valdez. Photos hardly convey the size of these huge, 13-ton vehicles, but their dimensions do. They were 33 feet long, 11 feet, 7 inches tall and 8 feet wide. The wheelbase was 248 inches. http://www.futurliner.com/valdez.htm http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv...610704980.html ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I've always loved the look of those things. They're just completely surreal.
And legitimately rare -- $425k trades hands fairly quickly at a place like Barret Jackson over the same "one of a kind Shelby" year after year. But what kind of fuckin' jerk repaints it like this? Valdez took a Humphrey Bogart-meets-Terminator Dreamliner and turned it into a Sarah Palin football helmet.

![]() The bad news? Futureliners in their original trim were basically just an empty box. A rolling gallery that housed an exhibit of GM's technology concepts. They rolled up, let the sides down, and folks could walk up/in/through and see the exhibit. http://gomotors.net/General-Motors/G...l#.USH1PRG9KSM I may be thinking of something else, but I seems to recall that one of the nine was originally designed to house the traveling exhibit staff. More than likely in conditions resembling a circa 1990 tour bus.

Art deco turned disco.
Overall structure looks to be sound, wasn't hacked too bad. But the restyling leaves a lot to be desired. Went from awasome to rage at the moment that turned dated in about 6 hours. Buy it, get it resprayed in a proper art deco style. De-modernize the interior and it will be great. |

Yeah, what could a concours quality paint job on something like that cost, probably not much. And I'm sure replacing all the bright work won't be expensive.
![]() I remember seeing the Futurama cars in the '50's at an Atlantic City convention as a kid. The cars all reminded people of "jet planes", something really futuristic at the time.

I'm fine with his paint scheme if it was a total wreck beforehand.
It's not that bad. It isn't the way they originally came, but at least it's still around today.

What the fuck has anything got to do with Sarah Palin? What the fuck are you talking about? It's a fucking art deco bus you fucking fuck, not some fucking political thread in CS&M. Jesus fucking Christ man, you must be a fucking joy at parties.

Looks like a big machine for the 302, but it was 1939! I wonder if a 4-71 would fit, as I doubt the 6-71, or the 8V92 would "wedge" in without major modifications.
The best fit might be a 5.9 Cummins... |

Wonder if you could build something like that for less than the asking price, sort of like the Decoliner, but without the weird flybridge.
