While you are thinking about a top loader, maybe I can do an "idea dump" here and you might take things into consideration.
  • No hinges for the lids. If you have hinges you pretty much have to take of luggage that is strapped to the passenger seat area. The Touratech Zega or BMW OEM concept is pretty good, though I'd really do without the retainer strap of the OEMs.
  • Lids not too high. Makes loading awkward.
  • Should have a common size, so that available liners will "just fit". I'd love to fit the Kriega Bag in medium expansion the case.
  • I'd hate cases that have a large "lip" around the opening. Makes using tight fitting liners pretty much impossible and easily damages stuff. There must be better ways.
  • As I've mentioned before, a lot of my stuff like tent, sleeping bag, other things, pack to around 20cm width. That makes it a tight fit in an 8" case, would love to see 9" cases. Again ...
  • Lockable. But must close securely without locking. Meaning, vibrations won't open the lock.
  • Anodized or powder coated is a must for me.

Of course, that's all just me and other people will have different priorities.

Is anybody using the Maier Splash Guard with Pilot Mounts? Does it fit?

You'd have to trim it a bit around the frame mounted brackets that hold the bullets.

Just trimming? So it will fit with some TLC? Great. So I can order one.

We easily modified a Maier Splash Guard for an R1200GS customer by trimming a couple of small areas with a utility knife. There is also a splash guard available from Machine Art Moto that fits with the Pilot Mounting System.

Great. That'll do it for me. Just didn't want to spend $50 for throwing it away later ...

We've yet to put V2s on a Multistrada. However, we think it'll look pretty slick. Here's a quick photoshop mock up to get an idea. We did custom red doors to really make it pop. Note, we offer 3 standard colors (Black, Silver, and Vein). We'll do custom colors but because matching a color is a personal opinion, we request that the customer choose and order the custom powder. Contact us for more details.

Ok I may be missing something then, because when I tried to mount one its contact points were where the Micatech mounts were. Got any pics?

Very cool. I cross posted over to the Ducati forum as well. I like the look.

We asked our customer for photos and will post them where when we have some.

Kawasaki Versys

We've had a few emails lately about V2s on the Kawasaki Versys so we made another quick mock up of what it might look like. Enjoy.

You're right, the Pilot Mounts mate up with the Splash Guard mounts. It's not the pretties solution but it gets the job done.

We used a utility knife (although sharp scissors would work) to perform a little trimming. It was a very minor modification that took less than 30 minutes. With these modifications, there is no interference from the splash guard or the tie-downs. The rider says:
Initially, I was concerned about maybe not enough clearance at the bottom of the guard from the rear tire. However, this is not a problem. I road fairly hard on very twisty roads with no problems. Upon arriving back home I removed the rear wheel so I could drop the Final Drive and change the oil. As you can see from the pictures there was absolutely no contact between the tire and the splash guard. When I installed the splash guard I used a longer plastic tie to go over the side frame brackets. I'm very pleased as this will give me the protection that I wanted for my Ohlins.
