hey!

Hi, I'm new. I heard about this forum from a guy at Poes Pub breakfast in Richmond early in the summer (Bob? riding a newish Guzzi) and have been lurking in and out since and just realized there were regional forums. There seems to be a lot of y'all here in Virginia.

Another reason I've been hanging around is that I'm thinking about replacing my current old streetbike w/ an adventure tourer rig of some sort. Originally I was leaning R-GS, but now I'm liking the littler vstrom becuause it's light and cheap and gets good reviews all over. Been reading xssquiggys exploits and some others weestrom stuff here too. I also have an old XR600R that is dual sport enabled that I keep for riding in the really rough stuff.

Anyway, wanted to say hi before busting in on anymore threads or inviting myself along on rides.

What ever you do, be very afraid of this other asshole that lives down in Richmond going by the name of Freak - he's an evil poser that never rides and should not be trusted

I'm picking up my first D/S (a KLR) this weekend and am looking to ride as well. I'm not too far from ya; in fact I've got some friends in Richmond, and I often head up there for a bite at the 3rd St. Diner.

The KLR is cheap enough that I could justify keeping all of my other bikes as well. I won't say any more than that here; there's plenty of comparison information on these pages.

3rd street is my official favorite place to drunkenly stumble into at 3am for eggs and corned beef hash cooked in lots of good old fashioned lard. And gotta love that retro/greasy spoon ambience.

I'm well familiar w/ KLR's. I'm meeting some guys at the crab tree falls parkinglot for a ride over the mountain Sat morning. It's kind of rough in some places for a KLR, but you're welcome to join us if you can make it.

Crabtree falls

Would that be the trail south from Crabtree falls following Shoe Creek?

Great trail, but it's all downhill from the falls.

Nicer heading uphill TO crabtree falls.

Easy on a KLR.

There are several trails, but that where we'll start. I agree, the main trail is cake, but there are side trails that we ride which are steep and loamy and less KLR friendly. Not saying there aren't plenty who can't get them up there, just letting him know it's more than just a dirt road before he rides down there from C'ville.
