I'm pretty sure CJRacer successfully modified the stock tanks on his 2WD adventure project. You should contact him about the technique used...

But keep in mind that what CJ did may not work on your tanks as they are made of two totally different plastics. CJ's are Safari, non paint-able plastic.

You are absolutely right! The safaris are polyurethane, stock are polyamide!

I modified the Sarafi Tanks after a FAILED attempt to cut and weld the STOCK tanks.

Before you cut up and destroy a stock tank, check around and make sure you have a place that can reweld it for you. No one around here wanted to touch a GAS tank.

I found it a huge PITA to work w/ the Stock tanks, and no big deal to modify the Sarafi.

I picked up one of these kits:
http://www.urethanesupply.com/5600ht.php

This was my first major project, so I'm no expert and can use a lot more practice. I found the high heat required to work with the Nylon was hard for me to get all the pin holes out of the seam. I needed to replace a very large panel. I was testing it by filling the tank w/ WATER. I thought I had it all sealed up. Tested it w/ GAS and it leaked. I ran out of time to spend anymore on this project, so I cut the Sarafi tanks and was able to modify those NO problem b/c of the lower temp melting point.

You will also need a Heat Gun to warm up the plastic before welding.

Have Fun.

hmm...

This project is closing down. My work trip the next 6 months will not allow me near my bike.
Thanks for all the encouragement and helpful writeups. My biggest issue for now is the fuel solution. I think the SE safaritank will work but im not to keen destroying the "lines". Not that it is going to be a beauty, but its not an SE. I forgot i lost the lower mountingpoints for the tanks and the bashplate, when i mounted this engine. Maybe a crossbar somehow would be enough.
Well some pictures for the interested.

Though i did buy some stuff from the vendors block. Masterpiece that is.

I have to get used to watch the RC8 dash. Ill manage. My thoughts are, dash underneath a garmin zumo/oregon. And the HDB addition is impressive.

The relocator is so extra heavybuild and it is a well thought piece.

Front exhaust doesnt look to be in need of serious work. It will be running under my right footpeg, where it will be joined with the rear exhaust and up behind the reartanks(Pete640). And the exhaust so far is meant to be a 450 SXS, its 2" like the rest of the exhaust. There will be some quite inserts for travel.

My renewed deadline is next summer. Ill be back in Denmark mid february.

Standard sorry for crappy phone pictures, spelling, etc.

Drain the stock tank, rinse, and fill it with water. If they still wont weld on it then there just lazy pussys.

P.S. This is as good as porn. Add the RC8 race kit for the motor and possibly a turbo then that thing will with out a doubt be a death trap. As if it wasn't already.

1. you have too many LC8's just sitting there

2. you also have a very promising looking RC8

3. send the bike and parts to Canada and I'll sort her out for you just in time to come and ride back to Europe the "long" way around

Loving this thread can't wait to see the beastie in action

CLear clutch cover

Locul, you could send your clutch coer to CJRacer, it seems to me that some years abck he was interested in making a see-through clutch cover for the RC8.
If he got time, he's been as busy as Leonardo da vinci of late.
