6 th Annual W M R S Ride, Bishop, CA 7-29-10 thru 8-1-10
The 6th Annual WMRS Ride here in Bishop, CA
So do you want to ride to over 13,000 ft? See great vistas and take great pictures? Then this ride is for you!!!! DO NOT SEND ME ANY MONEY, THIS IS A " UN RALLY ". YOU WILL PAY FOR CAMPING AND DINNER YOURSELF. DO NOT CALL THE CAMP GROUND IT WILL BE COLD AT NIGHT AND YES, THEIR ARE STILL COWS ON THE ROAD Ok Ladies and Gentleman ( and I use the term loosely ), Boys and Girls, ADV Riders of all ages! It is time to announce the 6th annual WMRS Ride here in Bishop, CA.Once a year the White Mountain Research Station has an open house. Located in the Bristle cone Pine Forest, this is the only time of the year that you can ride all the way up to the station and check it out ( 13K ft ). It is always the first Sunday in August, this years ride dates are 7-29-10 thru 8-1-10, with the open house on 8-1-10. The area is loaded with great dual sport riding and camping. This a great weekend of riding the high country , with much cooler temps. I will be making the trip, hope you can join me. The pic reports below say it all. Info On White Mountain Research Station: White Mountain Research Station, with its principal office located in the Owens Valley near Bishop, was established in 1950 to provide laboratory facilities for any qualified research investigator wishing to utilize the high-mountain environment for his or her work, and to serve as teaching facilities for field courses conducted in the region. There are four separate laboratory sites: one in the Owens Valley; a second at Crooked Creek, at an elevation of approximately 10,000 ft (2,090 m); a third at the base of Mt. Barcroft, at an approximate elevation of 12,500 ft (3,801 m), making it the 11th highest high-altitude station in the world and the fourth highest in North America; and a fourth, the Summit Laboratory, atop White Mountain Peak, at an elevation of 14,246 ft (4,340 m). The Summit Laboratory is the fourth highest high-altitude research facility in the world and the highest in North America. http://content.cdlib.org/xtf/view?do...2&brand=eschol Link to Pics that I have taken while riding up here http://stonewall.smugmug.com/gallery/779812#P-1-15 Ride Reports from WMRS I in 05 http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php? t=90943 Ride Reports from WMRS II in 06 http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=157256 Ride Reports WMRS Ride III in 07 http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=254807 4th Annual WMRS Ride IV Ride Report 08 http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=369576 Extra info on the area. http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/inyo/ http://www.sonic.net/bristlecone/home.html http://www.wmrs.edu/ http://www.ca.blm.gov/index.html CAMPGROUND DO NOT CALL THE CAMPGROUND!!! I have spots for 100 + ADV Riders reserved. Also the Camp Ground is located at 7,000 ft. The nights can be cool, that's we use it. Also their are COWS on the road, that's why they call it "Open Range" This year we will be using The Browns Owens River Campground. http://www.brownscampgrounds.com/owens.html It is located on the Benton Crossing Rd ( also known as the Green Church Rd ) 6 miles east of US 395. Turn East at the Green Church just north of Crowley Lake and just south of the Mammoth Airport. The campground has showers available from 8 am until 4pm, very clean restrooms, and a small store with Beer and Ice. They also have a grill for Breakfast and Lunch. Cost is $10 dollars per day for a Motorcycle and tent, $20 per day for a pick up with 2 bikes or a pick up with trailer or a motor home with a trailer. Pay at the store when you arrive. This campground can handle RV's of any size. If you like to fish, bring your gear. The Fly fishing is fantastic here. FYI this campground " Does Not Take Credit Cards" ( no land line, but cell phones work great ), but they will take a check and of course cash. Saturday night Dinner will be at Reds as usuall. This is one of the best events out there, and we're going to have to miss it.
![]() We'll be somewhere between Glacier NP and Seattle, though, so that'll make up for it. ![]() ![]() Ya'll have fun, and hoist a drink or two for Gillifunk. I have a feeling that he'll be at home in the dark with the shades pulled. The WMRS rides have not been good to the boy.![]() ![]()

Hopefully in..
Had a great time last year making new friends, riding with old ones. Getting there was half the fun. Tioga pass is beautiful, even in the rain.

keep me on the "IN" list.
i just hope that my broken wrist mends just in time of this ride. i broke the "scaphoid" bone in the wrist, which i've been told by the docs that it is one the slowest healing bones in the body because of low blood supply. but, i so wish i am healed in time and can do this. it is one of my favorite rides!!!

I'll be in Mammoth on the 12th riding with some friends. If I can sneek away during that time of your event, I'll stop on by.
Next year I will be putting this my calendar. |
