Mike, that was so refreshing! A wonderful journey down memory lane.
My momma is from the SC low country, a tobacco farmer's grand-daughter. We used to go visit every year when I was little. I always loved the low country and the spanish moss. The acrid smell of the marsh still brings back those memories. And the mustard based bbq.... oh yeah baby! As you did, we always crossed the ferry and hit the 'banks as we called them. Back in the mid-late 60's we drove our 63 Tempest, and then our 65 Catalina out on the beach and surf fished. My dad had a set of rims widened with a pair of slick snow grips mounted, and we changed tires before hitting the beach. It was my job to place 2x8's under the wheels when we'd get stuck, then as the car took off, I'd grab the lumber, throw them in the trunk, and jump in through the window. Yes, this was before the stinking piping plover over-extended her natural range and invaded the NC coastline. It was also before parents would be locked up and their only child sent to foster care for allowing them to jump through the window of a moving automobile. Thanks for the ride down memory lane my friend. Godspeed in your continuing journey. - Jimmy |

Jimmy, Thanks! I was so tempted to ride out on the beach...maybe next time If I had another day, my stops would have included Beaufort, SC, the fort down the road and MY FAVORITE Low Country cooking establishment: Gullah Grub. Google it and go if you are down there. Anthony Bourdain hit it on a show of his too.

These are great. Keep them coming. I do not know how you cover so many miles and take as many pictures as you do.

. It's a RIDE report...not a STOP report. I just keep the camera around my neck for the on the go shots, Droid mounted up front for through the windshield shots and many u-turns to 'get that or you'll regret it'Here are some good tips. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=596215

Great pix as usual HBN
I love all the areas you hit this time, so much so I feel like that SC NC area is a home territory. With the exception of Myrtle Beach (Meh) From Hollywood SC (below Charleston) to OBX to Alligator River NWR to Elizabeth City NC is the promised land for me and my boaty ways. Check my Low Country ride report to see the bottom of my Carolina low country range! I never had BBQ from your place, but I have from here: http://www.mauricesbbq.com/onlinestore/main.cfm Colombia SC. Maurices Yellow BBQ sauce AWESOME!!!
