The bike held and maintained the pace the 690's put on AND won 3rd place.
How many KTM 450's did that? In the last 30 years? That's what I mean with Battle-Proven.
If everybody were riding 450s... who knows.....he could have won 1st.

2011 is gonna be a great Dakar year.

Anyway, In the last two and half years the Aprilia has raced everywhere and performed very well. The company/rider did a good job and made great improvements too.

Lastly I would like to also point out.
Nothing would make me more happy to see Jonah ride one of these babies and get away from KTM.
Why?
Because if the man captures a podium win with this bike I would guarantee Aprilia would sign his ass right away as a Factory Rider.

But I'm sure the man got his reason to race a KTM.
By the way is he testing a KTM 450? I've been trying to find info on that.
No luck so far. :(

When the ASO decided to go to 450's many people here threw a fit over it.(many still do).
If you read the previous Dakar thread many folks here were bashing on David fretigne and his yamaha. One main thing kept coming up, He used to many engines.
The way I saw it was that Helder Rodrigues and David Fretigne took 4th and 5th place.

Anyway, thanks for the info.

Do you know why Jonah, chose the WR as his main weapon and not a honda for example?
KTM to expensive, couldn't get one?
Not too much testing would be done on the KTM before dakar?
He already had a Yamaha in the garage?

Jonah is one of the "elite" riders who have been offered to purchase the new KTM. There are of course good reasons to go a different route.

Not to speak for him in any way but I think for anyone like Jonah who is basically a privateer, you have to go with whatever package you can get into that will offer you the chance to be on the start line and the best option to get to the finish line. I know he has been working very hard this year to get there and I too am elated for him that he's going to be there again! Go Jonah!

and now this bike has a win on the rally of Tunisia and a 2nd place on the Faraohs Rally against the 690cc!!!!!

this is going to be a legendary rally bike.

Chaleco is no joke. The dude been ridding this bike for over 2 years in every rally while the KTM boys been confy with the 690's most of the time.
KTM cool-aid lovers can say whatever they want to defend an unknown/never raced 450 bike, but the truth is The only thing that saved Marc Coma from Chaleco and Helder(Fantastic Performance) was his 690 rocket.
If he was racing a 450 Rally, people would have seen a different outcome.

Pharaons Rally
Francisco López: “I´m glad. Unfortunately the last two days were not made for my 450 cc, but I think that to have been first overall for four days shows that we can have great results. I´m second in the FIM World Championship of 450 cc and first in this race. These are great results.”

Helder Rodrigues: “I feel good, this is a great third place overall. I rode carefully not to break the engine or anything because I came all alone, without any assistance. I´m tired but satisfied. Third in Pharaons and third in the 450 cc class in the World Championship is a great score.”

the latest one is at the very minimum 700cc but pretty sure the current motor is out to around 720cc as of last years Pharaohs wasn't it due to compensating for the Dakar restrictor ?

Same way we know that a rider wouldn't illegally change a tyre in a neutral zone. Just wouldn't happen
