For some reason this morning while watching cyrils 450 rally vid (loud) a feeling of mainia shot through my body, you know that feeling of excitment thats so strong you choke and tear up.
I guess thats the feeling you get if you put yourself in the position to do Dakar, I can (at this stage) only dream of what it would be like at the start of stage one in your first Dakar!
I bet there is some great stories out there.

Lets get excited Dakar is coming.

Now that is a true fan right there.

I can't really understand why, but Despres has always struck me the wrong way. I've disliked him from the first (english) interview that I saw with him and am not sure why. Is his reputation that of a poor sportsman? How do those from the outside view him? It's obvious that he is a world class rider, but others seem humble and less arrogant / conceited.

Perhaps this is a misconception...?
He's a top level competitor at the top of his game. He plays to win and that is what he is paid to do. I can't find it but I recall a video from a few years back from his home in Andorra where he spoke about training, riding quads, racing, etc... It was pretty good and he seemed as down to earth as any professional sportsman.

If you can get a hold of an interview that happened on the 2006 Dakar Rally you'll see how much of asshole he used to be. In an Interview he was pissed that Marc Coma beat him and won his 1st place victory in the Dakar.

He didnt like the fact that Marc never won a single stage in 1st place.
Cyril spoke harshly of Marc at the end. Marc of-course defended his tactic and said in an interview that averering on the top 5 and doing good navigation can bring victory.

Cyril over the year became more humble and less of an asshole from the Interviews i've seen over the years.
I think IMO that after 2006 Marc Coma really became an Aggressive rider and is why he tries to win alot of stages. The bad comments made him better
because Cyril really respect him now.

Hello all, this year I will be in Argentina from 12/19 til 1/15. I hope to make to Buenos Aires to see some of the Dakar stuff. How close would a non racer be able to get to these bikes? Is there a way I could see some of these bikes up close? Just to admire and take a few pictures is all.

JCR in the Dakar...

Via Quinn Cody.com

In a partnership between JCR/Honda, American Honda, Honda Europe and HT Rally Raid among many others, Quinn Cody is poised to take his speed, endurance and championship riding to the World Rally stage at the 2011 Dakar. Anticipation and expectations are high as Quinn is in a position to take the Dakar by storm. Make no mistake however, the Dakar is no easy task and the American champion will have to be on his game. Lucky for America, Quinn Cody is just the guy to do it.
His recent exploits include winning the 2010 Baja 500 and the remarkable, solo winning of the 2010 Vegas 2 Reno overall. Be prepared to follow along as Quinn Cody takes on the world in the 2011 Dakar. He will be racing on a JCR/Honda, HT Rally Raid modified Honda CRF450X, appropriately named the DakarX.
The 2011 Dakar is a 15 day, nearly 6000 mile event, aired in 190 countries every day for several weeks so the global exposure from this race is off the charts. The Race begins and ends in Buenos Aires, Argentina with scrutineering on December 30th & 31st 2010. Opening ceremonies begin January 1st 2011 and the finishing ceremonies are taking place back in Buenos Aires on January 16th 2011.
“As a former racer of the Dakar going back has been on my radar since I started JCR/Honda. I am very pleased at how this team came together, who is involved and I have total faith in Quinn Cody’s skills as a racer. Quinn has the fitness and speed to win and the Honda CRF450X with Lucas Oils is an unstoppable racing machine. The key will be navigation and strategy and JCR/Honda & HT Rally Raid crews are committed to bringing our A game.” — Johnny Campbell
“I am extremely excited for the opportunity to take on the 2011 Dakar. The Dakar has been a life-long dream for me and with the new rules limiting the pro motorcycles to 450cc, the timing could not be better for JCR/Honda to take our unmatched experience with the CRF450X to The Dakar.” –Quinn Cody

Wonder how he will handle navagation.. sure for a top ten stage finish.. or two.. I hope he kicks ass... just like Chris Blais and Jonah Street have..

VIVA USA!!

That's a great news ! JCR putting a full effort into the Dakar..excellent :). Stage wins could be achieved, a podium finish is unlikely given the lack of experience. Can't wait to see how this chapter of the race unfolds :)

Cody was entered last year as well, but never showed up in B.A.

I hope the US/Honda effort works out better this year.
