Quick Update, we've made it to Fairbanks.

We're staying at ADV Rider Ramey's place in Fairbanks. Heading towards Deadhorse tomorrow. Allowing 3-4 days round trip. Weather is good. In the 80s. We're leaving a bunch of gear here to lighten the bikes. Should be good.

No time for a long post but here's the link to the pictures from Calgary to here. Not edited & you'll see a few multiple exposure shots I'm working with.

Update, Year 1 month 2

Just a quick update since I've not been able to get online in a while. We're sitting in Whittier, Alaska, USA waiting for our ferry to Juneau & then back to Bellingham, WA. We were hoping to ferry down the Inside Passage & Jessica's bike has developed an electrical problem. Whenever it rains or the roads are wet her bike dies. We had in looked at in Anchorage but they didn't fix the issue. We met a guy who told us about a cheap barge ($200/bike) so we're shipping the bikes back to Seattle a little early & following on the ferry. My KLR has a small radiator leak & a blown fork seal plus needs tires soon. The joys of Adventure travel.
We'll spend a couple weeks back in Seattle. We have a backpacking trip to the Enchantments planned & will get the bikes right then head out again for another month or so before stopping to work for the winter.
I'll do a complete ride report when we're back in Seattle (we've both stopped calling it Home). For now you can look up some more pictures on Facebook under jack Lowry for me or Jessica Superball Kristine for her. There are also some more photos at:

http://s789.photobucket.com/albums/y...ip%20-%202010/

Until then.

The Full Monty

Alright, time for an update & the full ride report. We're back in Seattle for the winter after 2 months & 6000 miles of riding.

First I want to thank all the people that made this happen. Here is Seattle, Jason, John, Deb, Marco, Jeff, Kirk & especially Victor & Ken for help on the bikes.

On the road Cousin Eric and his gang. His girlfriend Dianne & cousin David & the rest of the clan. The Many ADV riders who let us stay with them, fed us, & wrenched on our bikes: Mike (1911fan), Trent & Monika (calrider and gf) and friend Doug, Ramey (driftwwod), Paul (denalidirt), & Paul (Beemertwin)

Plus too many more to list here.

We began the trip on June 30 & returned to Seattle on Sep 3. In between we rode over 6000 miles although we only rode 6 of the first 21 days. The basic route was Seattle - Couer D'Alene -Caldary - Banff - Jasper - Dawson Creek - Ft Nelson - Watson lake - Ross River - Dawson City - Fairbanks - Deahorse (Prudhoe Bay) - Fairbanks - Denali - Anchorage - Homer - Anchorage. Then by ferry Whittier - Juneau - Sitka - Ketchikan - Bellingham.

The amazing & varied scenery we saw is indescribable.
We saw a mated pair & 3 yr old bald eagle. The young one from the length of a kayak paddle. Ground squirrels, marmots, deer, elk, a suicidal wolf I almost hit, coyote, 1 large male black bear, a female & her 2 cubs, a porcupine, and the very rare & ellusive North American Tea Bagger. Found only in rural, hick parts of the US. Also bison, caribou, fox and finally Beluga whale, black porpoise, and Humpback whale. We did not get to see wolf up close or Grizzly. Hopefully next year.

Next the part you've all been waiting for, Many pictures.

All loaded up & leaving Seattle

Grand Coulee Dam

Cousin Eric & his boat, Couer D'Alene, Idaho, USA

Food porn from his place

In addition to the normal fare you eat while riding we ate bear, moose, venison, antelope, caribou, quail's eggs and I'm sure other things I've forgotten.

We had a very small town 4th of July like the ones Jess & I had growing up.

Look, here they are

Jessica had put on heated hand grips but the hand guards didn't work well with them so Eric, Tom, & Joe spent a day fabing up some.

So far they've worked for the entire trip & prevented much damage.

We also spent some time on Cousin David's quads which were much fun & that Jessica had never driven before.

Also rode with my cousin Ben (1nce removed) up to an old abandoned, burnt out house

In Idaho, USA we also got heavy duty tubes installed & I picked up that blue & yellow riding jacket you see above at Beaudry Motorsports. They were swamped & understaffed so we were there for hours but they cut us a screaming deal. Thanks guys!

Next up Beautiful Drunk British Columbia.

My 4 much older cousins: David, Eric, Terri & Traci bought 115 acres just outside Yahk, British Columbia, Canada. It's got a gorgeous old log cabin that can only be reached over a suspension bridge. We like to float from upstream down to the cabin or from the cabin down to Yahk for organic ice cream drinking as we go. These have become known as Booze Cruises.

First I should mention that we got our bikes completely searched at the Canadian border, as usual for me, & that my headlights stopped working at some time on the ride up.

The Moyie river

Floating

The young bald eagle. This is not zoomed in.

The 2 generations of cousins

After 12 days with the cousins we blasted up to Kimberly where we waited out the first of many thunderstorms. Saw an Elk on the way out of town & set up our first guerrilla campsite. Not much to comment on except Lots of mosquitoes. The next day we moved on & got our first glimpse of the Canadian Rockies

We ate breakfast in Ft Steele & couldn't resist this. These were to become a photo theme of our trip

We then moved East towards Alberta, CAN but on the way we stopped for this

It was a gorgeous ride over the Rockies on Hwy 3 towards Ft Macleod, AB. We went there to visit Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump where the Indians I mean Native Americans I mean First Nations stampeded buffalo off a cliff for thousands of years.

We headed into Ft Macleod proper & found a good dive bar for dinner & a drink.

As I mentioned earlier my headlights weren't working. We'd been driving for hours looking for a good guerrilla camp site but couldn't find anything remote enough. We were running out of options so doubled back to an abandoned farm.

We set up out tent in the grain shed & were quite comfy.

The next day (July 12) we stopped for a cold breakfast in Carmangay.

We then arrived in Vulcan, AB, CAN because we liked the name. What a surprise. First a hot rod show at the local A&W which was celebrating its 57th anniversary.

We then saw this

Which was out front of this building

Which turned out to be

They had all kinds of fun stuff inside including Leonard Nemoy's ears from the 1st movie and his hand print.

And costumes

The whole town was like this.

This sign I just couldn't resist. When we passed by an hour later it was changed.

It had been a bit windy all day & continued to get worse. We were being blown about the road a bit when just after Mossleigh we rounded a corner over a rise & saw this.

We doubled back to wait out the storm & see if we could find a place to stay in Calgary. Everything was booked because of the Calgary Stampede. A number of fortunatge things happened while we waited out the storm: we didn't have to drive in 60 mph gusts, we missed a tornado which touched down on our route, we didn't get pummeled by golf ball size hail, we met Chris & Brenda who offered to put us up just up the road at the campground they managed, & we got a reply an ADV Rider from inmate Trent (Calrider). I have to admit I'm horrible with names & so we were very happily surprised when the next day we roll into Calgary & see the guy we met at the Horizon's Unlimited event in BC the year before.
Trent! with the hail we missed the day before:

He & his cool girlfriend Monica from Columbia took good care of us.

We got right into the Stampede spirit

We were just going to stay one night, which then became 2, then a few. It was hard to leave after 5 wonderful days. They were such great hosts.
We went on another float.

Fixed my headlights. It was a ground issue. That's Doug in the background who did most of the work & solved the issue in his garage.

Wandered around Calgary

We went out a bunch but I have no appropriate pictures of that.
We did the Chuckwagon races & after show at the Stampede. Best $15 I've ever spent on entertainment.

Trent & Monica recovering on the way home.

I think I'll break Alberta into two sections it was so much fun.

Monica has just gotten her own bike so we all did a great ride together but I have no pics. Maybe Trent or Monica do?

We finally had to tear ourselves away from Calgary & headed NE to the Badlands. We took Trent's route advice & had some great riding & the first long gravel we'd done.

The Great Plains are very flat. ;)

We stopped to see the Hoodoo's.

Then rode on to Wayne, an old mining town for lunch & a beer.

We'd heard they had the World's Largest Dinosaur in Drumheller so rode on to check it out.

Yeah, that's what I thought too.

It was bloody hot so we rode on to the Royal Tyrrell Museum

(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Tyrrell_Museum_of_Palaeontology). The highlight there was of a young T Rex whose bones had been fossilized with black mineral. They called her 'Black Beauty'.

Then north & caught a free ferry whose boatman told us we could stay for free across the river.

The next morning we parked the bikes & hiked up into the Badlands a bit.

We returned from the hike to a Hot Asphalt Incident on my bike. The kickstand dug in & tipped over. Only the windscreen & my ego were damaged.

Then West.
Not sure what happened here. It still smelled so we guess maybe a lightning strike. Alberta was having it's wettest, stormiest summer on record.

Next more Alberta, back through British Columbia & north to Adventure.

Alright time for some feedback. How are the pictures? Too many or not enough? Size ok? Too little text? Can you stand the Kawasaki Green?
Anything else?
