Yep, the first time I had Carolina BBQ was at Shaw's in Williamston. We thought the meat had spoiled. All covered in vinegar and shit.

Cornucopi in Cashiers

Cornucopia in Cashiers. Everything is delicious. But it is a dry county...
Folks coming in locally all had their own wine and beer "purses". That was a hoot to see!

Try the Pik n Pig in Carthage NC. The restaurant sits next to a public runway. People fly their planes in for lunch.

Spicy chicken sandwich and banana pudding can't be beat.

Yep, the Pik N Pig has some very good BBQ.

If you are in a hurry Ronnie's Chuckwagon in Carthage has great hotdogs and short order grub. They now have an indoor air conditioned dining room. No more setting outside in 100 degree temps!

Cool thread!

As a native Huntersville Hoodlum, here are a few of our area favorites:

Sports Page Food and Spirits - Charlotte, NC (Also one in Denver, NC)
Bar B Q King - Charlotte, NC (Wilkinson Blvd)
Brightstar - Belmont, NC
Sub Corral - Belmont, NC
Hawthorne's NY Pizza - Charlotte, NC
Romanello's Pizza - Huntersville, NC (I-77 Exit 23)
Lancaster's Barbecue - Huntersville, NC (Beatties Ford Rd)

The guys that started the Penguin went to high school with my mother in law. According to her they kinda got screwed. Anyway, they opened another place off Freedom Drive called Pinky's. I've heard it's great.

I think it's the old Penguin chef that did Pinkies and the old Penguin guys now have the Diamond around the corner from the Penguin.
Personally I won't go back to the Penguin but I love the Diamond!

I can't believe that nobody has chipped in with Lexington Barbecue in Lexington, NC. Bet Q I've ever had in my life, hands down...

Add Kings BBQ in Kinston, NC to the list. I got one of their famous "Pig in a pup" there a couple of weeks ago and it was great. They have great home cooked sides to go along with your BBQ and the service was quick and friendly.

Lexington BBQ is pretty good, Jimmys is also; heck any of them in Lexington.

Kings is a definite stop on the way to the coast.

Pappy's BBQ in Banner Elk, while they were open, served up some tremendous BBQ and burgers.

Family Billiards in Foscoe, their daily specials are beyond good. We're talking truly from scratch soups and foods. Good enough that people call in to reserve a special as it's not uncommon for them to sell out.

Black Cat Burrito in Boone for cheep beer and wild combinations of burritos and nachos.

Can't think of the name, but there's a small BBQ joint in Lenoir on the west side of 321 that has some great Brunswick Stew and chopped pork.....it'll come to me....sometime.

Sorry for resurrecting a slightly old thread, but nothing goes better than riding and food!

As a transplant to NC, I've found a couple of places I like:

Char-Grill, Raleigh
Hillsborough BBQ Co., Hillsborough

Originally from Texas, but have developed a taste for Eastern NC BBQ.

Dairy-O - King, NC

Go to the original location, not the new store on University Pkwy in Winston.

The old store was torn down but the new building is awesome. Just south of downtown King, they have painted Motorcycle parking by the drive thru entrance.

Get a No.1 all they way with a Pepsi or Tea. Their hot dogs transcend hot dogs becoming their own greatness - grilled bun, chili, slaw, onion, mustard... a symphony of delicious.

Make the trip, you won't regret it.

On the contrary, thanks for bumping it back to page 1. I wish this thread was a 'sticky' at the top of page 1.

I need to add Everything Under The Bun in Asheboro, NC to the list. http://www.everythingunderthebun.com/

You can choose on their specialty burgers or have them made to order. They are good and priced right but don't go on Sunday as they are closed.

Hanna's BBQ I think is the name
