I could not agree with you more. The middle of Florida is the real Florida! I'm up in Spring Hill so you know where most of my riding is. I just bought the R1100GS so now I get to explore even more places.

Great thread!

***flashback***

Let's start at Daytona, March 1998!

This was back when the Daytona Dirt Riders did the event...

Hey look! It's Dirtboy dressed in orange! In '98 WDSRC had about 50 members. Now, as DixieDualSport, we've grown to over 2500...

Okay, here we are at the start of the alternate entrance...which we decided to go back and take the main...

Here's where Mud magnet Tom got his name. He went face down into this hole...okay, it wasn't deep, but how could anyone fall over in it!

Here's Brian working the KLR....

Breakin' off into the woods...ya know, this clearcut is all 10-15 ft sand pines now. We used this road in the '06 Armadillo!

Being the excellent sand riders we were back then....
...here's another shot of Tom....

KLR on the trail....

Takin' a break...

Young Brian and his KLR...(He's now pushing 30!...Time flies!)

Here's the bike that started the whole WDSRC/DixieDualSport experience. The bike that laid out the first rides, that carried me through events, that got the whole thing started. Looking back now, it's a very historic motorcycle...My 1982 XL250R. So being 1998 that means that the bike was already 16 years old in this picture. A full year younger than Brian in the photo above...

The ferry crossing to lunch...

Lunch at the fish camp... another mind blowing experience... we get to lunch and it was a few pieces of ham literally slapped on some bread and the Suzuki folks thought they were doing us this huge favor.... A far cry from the spreads at DDS's Devil's Creek event!

Then came the long ride back to the Tomoka Farms road in Daytona...

Thinkin' back, that little XL250 sang her heart out...

Hummmmm.....what to share next.....

NPR is New Port Richey, I grew up in Pasco County and went school in Zephyrhills. Can't wait to see more of my old stomping grounds!

Hi Swampy.

One of the finest fellers I've met on two wheels!

Hope to see you again one of these days.

I'll check in with DDR and see if I can make one of the rides !

I'll try to stay off of the front brake and stay upright this time!

Last I remember was taping your broken wrist between two icepacks and sending you off with a couple on an atv! I may even dig out that report and pictures!

How you doin' you old dog?

If I get over to Zihills I'll look for FLE for ya, kojack!

swampy,

its on the road going towards lakeland, you come from npr, past bernedette, down past the highschool, and its on the right hand side....old farts park..ha ha, there are a lot of newfoundlanders there, so dad bought a place in there and my brother and I went thirds on the house with him...

beautiful area, I love that better than the beach areas. It reminds me of my home town, but substitute spruce trees for the palm and oaks...

PM me with your contact info, when I get down next year I will def look you up!

Riding with Mrs Swampy!

Swampy's been so busy with you guys setting up Devil's Creek and BikeWeek events that he hasn't had a chance to take me riding! With the Black Bear coming up I needed practice so I MADE him take me riding!

I haven't ridden in the woods since before December so I wanted some easy stuff for today. Swampy took me on some back roads covered with leaves. Leaves are slippery! Especially when you remember that there's sand under them!

He took me down the FenceLine. One of my favorites!

Styling in green!

We had ridden this last year with Bill and Lauren, at that time it was underwater!

Last year Swampy says this was underwater too...and I made it through it on my XT225 last year.

These dry jeep holes are fun.

We'll be going out again. Gotta keep getting ready for the Black Bear! Many events in Florida, come join us!

Oh man, I've had some EPIC rides w/ DDS (Just stay behind Hardiman or he'll use you as traction ). I wish I still had those pics of me and Fritz at Daytona trying to ride our BMW GS's through ONF...I think that was 2003? What about Jeff R. opening his airbox at Dev's Creek after his swimming lesson, I'm pretty sure there were a few catfish in there. If anyone here is in the Southeast and hasn't ridden Devil's Creek or Black Bear, kick yourself square in the nutz...then signup, great group to ride with!

Wait! MY AVATAR! That's both GS's taking a dirt nap on that fateful day in ONF!
