Any idea if they can do the dual plug mod? I have a spare set of head with receding valves that need to be done. Still not sure on that mod though....

yes they can...in fact they are fixing my crudely done dual plug hole on one head... I had machined the fins away and had someone build up with weld to get a 3/4" reach plug in....the weld did not penetrate the metal in some areas and so it leaked when they did a pressure test. So $55 of the 644 is for milling out the mig weld and building it up with tig...
they also do rebuilding the spline on the rear axle.
There is a place near Randy Long which does nikaseal treatments to the cylinders which brings the bore back to spec and the original pistons can be reused if the ring grooves are not worn out like mine are....
he does good work and has a several month backlog. Sent my stuff down in early Feb. and my turn is just coming up...

I get much better gas mileage with the dual plug setup been running it since the early 80's

Hey Jimmy-Lee. Glad to see you're riding and I assume you still have the 640.

I would love to do such a trip but I'll have to stick to this side of Canada for some time.

Anybody here from around Gander or St. John's?

We're on the rock from Winnipeg and so far we've been camping and staying for cheap at army bases. However, it's Sunday and we won't get a room and in true NFLD fashion, the weather is shit. We're at Deer lake right now and looking to get to or justy past Gander today then St. John's the next day but we haven't got a place to stay yet at either.

Hotels are pretty much out of the question as we're on a budget.

Thanks!

There is a place in Grand Falls called Union St. Hostel and Efficiency units.

Tell them you just want a bed and you will end up in your own rm. with a shared kitchen. 47a Union St. Grand Falls Windsor about 100km west of Gander off Hwy 1.

You'll be out of the rain an hr. early. Very clean and very reasonable.

I got you covered for Monday/Tuesday but I am blowing out of town on Wednesday to Bay de Verde. Really cool spot to throw down a tent. You do know you can camp anywhere here that is crown land? Pick a beach...any beach.
GPSKevin is arriving tomorrow from San Diego so space might be sparse but we'll find a spot for your arse I'm sure.

PM me when you get close to St. Johns.

Southerner visiting Newfie

Just wanted to post up and say thanks to straight-8 for letting me crash at his place when I went thru goose bay. Was really nice to have a personal tour of the overlook and a warm place to sleep.

Also wanted to get some advice on the St. John's area. I plan on being there wed- Thursday this week and have got a day planned to just check out the sights. Was planning on finding a hostel close to downtown. Would appreciate any route recommendations or eating places.

I'll be the guy on the tiger 800 with the orange helmet.

Right on Murph! He's good company, I'm sure he won't be as beat when he arrives at your place. He pushed Manic 5 to Goose in a day with daylight to spare!

Paul, you will be introduced to the true NFLD motorcycle spirit. Murph is a treasure chest of local knowledge! Enjoy the road, enjoy Grose Morne area tonight...Psss its Sunday today! (as if it really matters on vacation eh bhy!)
