All Sierra Passes Now Open...

The Glacier Point Road opened on May 29, 2010.
The Tioga Road will open on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 8 am. No camping, lodging, or other services will be available along the road.
The road is currently open to bicycles from Crane Flat to Olmsted Point and from Tioga Pass to Olmsted point–but not through Olmsted Point avalanche zone. Bicyclists should be aware of rockfall potential and for maintenance/administrative vehicles using the road.
Note: Sonora Pass (Highway 108) and Ebbetts Pass (Highway 4), north of Yosemite, opened for the season on May 28.

What about Sherman Pass in the southern sierra?, I have been trying to find info if you can get through.
From what I've heard he sign at the bottom on the Kern river side says Closed due to snow 12 miles ahead. Ive ignored these in the past and been ok. But then again I've had to turn back also. Anyone been there lately.

120 was still closed on the 5th, but open today when we went past. We took 4 instead because I'm not a fan of $20 toll roads.

It's $10 on a bike....if that makes any difference . I love the road, but not a fan of RV parades. I'll go on a weekday if I get a chance. Spent time on Sonora pass this weekend, no toll and few cars at the higher elevations. Perfect.

You could buy a year parks pass.
Then you could go to any National Park you want any time.

Well, I stand corrected.

I guess I always think of riding as a solo thing, and forget others don't.

I did the Sonora, Monitor, Ebbets loop on 6-1. Quite a few motorhomes doing the same, luckily most going in the opposite direction. Their motto should be, "all the road, all the time". Lots of snow on Hwy 4, with 6-8ft banks for miles.

One of the pitfalls of GPS. Came up behind an out of state 40' motorhome on 4, guess he was looking at his gps instead of the sign saying nothing over 25' recommended. I finally got around this behemouth chugging along at 5 mph, I hope the on comming traffic did the same.

..a week too late.

But, be warned if you're traveling through Sequoia park. There's construction near the south entrance (around Giant Forest, I think), down to a one-way with an automated light.. with a 20 MINUTE TIMER. I got stuck behind it for two cycles.

Allmost all Sierra passes now open

Sherman pass still closed as of 6-11, I had to go around to Walker pass.
Also lots of road construction on hwy 41 in Yosemite. With pace cars and major delays.

Barely anyone on the road on Monday too. I swear, these roads never get old on a beautiful sunny day.

Me and a buddy rode all 4 passes starting last Sunday the 13th. Conditions were GREAT, weather was greater and traffic was very light with the exception of Yosemite Valley and Glacier Point. We rode west on Tioga, east on Sonora, west on Ebbitts and east on Kit Carson. temps ranged from the mid 30's to the mid 70's. 1400 miles round trip from north Orange County. WONDERFUL!!!!
Watch out for DEER. I came within about 8 feet of hitting a doe that jumped out in front of me. Talk about an adrenalin rush. Oh well, no harm, no venison.
Ride safe & enjoy
Regards
Bernd
