Fray Bentos Steak and kidney pie, now owned by the giant Heinz Coporation.

Coles sells 'em.

Note to self. When fueling up at Windorah do NOT say "I'll see you later", "I had better get a hop along" or "See you around". You will just look like a prick in front of the locals and feel like a dick.

Back in my really poor bachelor days the other thing I would do with Braised Steak and Onions was; cook a cup of rice, and mix a can of black and white brand Braised Steak and Onions in this big stainless steel mixing bowl. Eat what I wanted and then stick the rest in the fridge. and that would feed me for a couple of days.

This was at home. I don't have the inclination for such fancy cooking in the bush

Thumb Mmmmm extra chunky

Fully loaded Steak and Bacon and Lamb Casserole, great after a cool mornings ride to warm everything up.

The tins are easy to carry in and smash down so they are easy to carry out

After a long, cold and slightly wet ride in the dark on Friday night - didn't get into camp until nearly 9 pm, we tucked into home made roo curry. I made it earlier, put it in a couple of Nalgene water bottles, it heated up really fast and sure tasted good at that hour - we were really hungry.

I can give you the recipe.

Saturday night was pumpkin and parsnip in foil roasted in the coals, lamb chops and feta and sundried tomato sausages grilled over the fire. Yum

You really are wicked! But I like your style.

I trust you had a nice bottle of red to compliment the cordon bleu cuisine.

My 2 bucks worth, Be opportunistic, intentive and like the scouts say "be prepared", (luck favours the prepared) pack tins, powered soup mix, dehyd veg, fruit and meat. dont ever ride past a tap or clean water without filling ur bottles, if u pass a fruit tree get some or if you run over a rabbit (or wallaby as i did) and dont die, put some of him in ur pannican with the soup mix and cook the c%&t, he wont mind.

Good grub keeps moral up and when ur f%&ked in the middle of bum f%&k nowhere thats all u got.

When I used to hike more often I made dehydrated meals myself. Used a dehydrator to do the veges and mince then made up packs of chili con carne, satays, moroccan cous cous etc. They were awesome. But now I am lazy. Not having to be so pedantic about weight on a bike means those Big Eat cans are great (bacon and potato mmm) and now you can get chicken in a can like the tuna ones. The chicken is good to fill out a suimin or other noodle meal.
