Thumb Cherokee Bypass

Thanks for the info on the Cherokee Bypass.

I've added it to my distribution release and my working version. I'll pass it along to Chip shortly... I think we're planning on an updated TET release sometime this winter.

The ski area is above Maggie Valley.... it doesn't look like you got quite that far. Very funny sign on the east side of it.... "Despite what your GPS tells you, this is NOT the way to the ski area! Go down the hill... etc, etc, etc" Above that point it's a very rough, steep, gravel county road right to the top of the ski area. Would be very funny to see people trying to go that way in the winter... snow... ice... mountain side.... trees. I bet the wreckers get a pretty penny to get people out of there!

And despite how nice it is, I'm gonna pass on Heintooga Ridge Rd as it is one way. Sorry!

I'm really glad somebody finally got out there and rode the TET-S!

I think sometime in Nov, maybe even Dec, we are going to try the southern part from GA to FL. Maybe we'll make it all the way this time! Probbably not though.

Yeah, we didn't make it that far to Maggie Valley. We really thought we'd make it to VA and we didn't even make it half way through NC! Haha, I bet that sign is pretty funny.

You can see that bypass doesn't take much off, but it does bypass Cherokee and you still get to ride some of the BRP still, then continue on up past 19.

I don't blame you there. It is a nice ride, but it would confuse people being only 1 way and for an hour ride, you don't cover much ground.

Looking forward to completing it someday.

BTW, if you need the actual GPX/GDB track log for that bypass, I can send it to you via e-mail, or you can just draw the tracklog out on MapSource. I think its pretty clear which roads it is we took from my picture above. Although where both those gravel roads intersect the BRP isn't quite the same on the map on how it is in real life. The first one (Red track log) actually passes under a tunnel for the BRP, and you have to go about 100 yrds up, hang a left, stay left and then it runs into the Parkway. Where the purple one intersects, its close enough to see the BRP entrance, but you actually come out on that road that runs to the Mile High Campground and the Balsam CG.

My e-mail is the same as my username at gmail.com
