I also had minor problems on getting connector out, because there were not much slack. Use screwdriver to press that lock down. That way I got the connector apart. I took the pins out from switch side, because it was easier. Put some silicone caulking or similar to the empty connector holes to prevent water and dirt going in the connector. You cannot get the pins out without opening the connector, at least without breaking it.
Hope this helps. Quote:

After all these years of being a sponge and sucking valuable info off this site.
I think i have finally contributed something besides BS and smart ass remarks!! If you are running a stock map, this little mod really makes the bike run stronger and also smoother as well

While I was doing an oil change I thought I might as well do the mod. It's an 05.5 and she does pull a bit better and I like the way she accelerates on the back wheel now. Now I'd like to do some work on a dyno.

Worth it
2008 990 Adv- easy mod, here's how it feels to me.........Ever get out on your bike after a weather change brings in cold dense air? You punch it thru the gears and go wow I don't remember this thing being so strong. Not dramatic but noticeable, and curiously my gut had always told me that 2nd and 3rd were a little "off".........

Wires pulled. I pulled the wires from the switch side. They will be at ground potential so no corrosion issue. I just stuck them back into the wire cover and taped up.
I'll see if I can get out for a spin tomorrow.

Did it this morning on my US '08 ADV S. At least an hour fighting getting the mud encrusted plug apart to push the pins out and shrink wrapping the exposed connectors. In hindsight it would have been easier to remove the lleft hand fuel tank to gain easy access to the plug. I "mite" (a mite is something on a chickens ass) have noticed a slight improvement on WOT response. Would I do it again? Yes, to have something like that hinder the performance and add production cost simply for a government regulation is BS.

Went to ride into work today. Left my Mixit turned on. Dead Battery.
I guess tomorrow I'll ride in. Needs to charge overnight. I still don't know how this mod feels. (if anything)

Maybe test drivers didn't notice this because 1-3 gears are just for getting the bike moving and driving starts from 4th gear
![]() Does the mod affect after butterflies removed? Or are the bf's the way for ecu to control throttle response while running 2th or 3th gear?

I did the mod on my 2009 990 earlier this week. Had a nice 1000 km trip from sea level up into the mountainside etc. Did not notice a significant increase in power in 2nd and 3rd, even at revs up to 9000 rpm, but the throttle response is greatly improved. Even with no power gain the removal of throttle hesitation is worth this mod.
