Tubes, Lube, and the TAT

This is a tale of Adventure, Drama, Comedy and some Tragedy..so take a seat and hang on!

It all started last last year when there was talk of doing the TAT from the New Mexico/Oklahoma sate lines and ride back to Arkansas. Sure, I was curious and thought that I would love to be in on that. As the time grew nearer and at the last minute, I found out that we would start further west inside Colorado than I had hoped.

This trip is the brianchild of JoeNuclear

unknown to me was his evil plan to leave me for dead

The cast of characters for this adventure mishap are as follows, and each one of us will add pix and commentary to this RR..

and we are, Left to Right, Joenuclear, DrLewall, and Mosseycreek

So the plan is to trailer the bikes to Salida CO, drop us off and Joes buddy Jim will drive the truck and trailer back to Arkansas. Fine, I can sit 20 hours in a truck with four other hairy legged men, or so I thought. Joe was driving and he has yet to suffer any prostate issues..good thing I was wearing my diaper!

SO before we leave Fort Smith, there are some trailer wiring issues that need to be resolved..seemed Joes truck didn't want to work with the trailer..here is Mosseycreek performing surgery

After about an hour, we resolve the wiring issues and we hit the road.

Here is the back of Jims head...he looks better this way, really!

After all day driving, we arrive in Trinidad CO at abt 10pm or so..we decide to get a couple of rooms and continue in the morning after a good nights rest.

Next morning we leave trinidad early for the 3 hr drive to Salida.

We find a Walmart and unload the bikes, 2 Honda 650's and one lil XR400.

We suit up and pack for the unknown

We are not even out of town before the comedy began. Between the three of us, none of us had a clue as to where to start the TAT from. We thought we had all the GPS's in sinc, negative! Between all the chatter and laughing in our helmet communicators, we were lost in town for abt 2 hours!

We did find Haydukes Fat Tees store and stopped in to do a meet-n-greet..but he wasnt there..something abt collecting bear specimens or parole vilotaions..anyway, we left a note for him..sorry we missed him.

We did however stop in at the Dept of Recreation and aquired our Search and Rescue permits!

Even tho we had a SPOT, we really didnt want to risk a LARGE SAR bill incase we had to be rescued

you see, the way I understand it, if you get lost in the Colorado wilderness and you do not have the SAR permit, you will get billed for a Search and Rescue response, which could be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars..but with the SAR permit, which is only $3 (yes, 3 dollars) you won't be billed..cheap insurance in my book!

So who's taking care of your goats?
I'm glad you mentioned the SAR permits. I had no idea. Me and Big Bro are headin to CO in Sept. I'll be getting one for sure. If you would've invited Elvis with ya you wouldn't have got lost in town.
And now I know why Joe isn't at work.

I'm in...

So far, so good.

How did the helmet communicators work out? Could everyone hear at the same time? How did you get them all on the same freq?

Unless doc was carrying bricks, his bike did not look that overloaded...????

Get more pictures up please....

WE are working on the pictures..lots to go thru and sort..between the 3 of us, probably 1,000 pix or more..as for the Q2 and the Q4s..they worked great! We would lose commo every now and then, but overall, they were well worth it!!!!!!!

Ok, so we ride around Salida for a while chasing our tails..the women folk at home had the SPOT page and we were laff'n cause the trax SPOT was leaving probably looked like what a bunch of hounds would look like trying to pick up a scent trail. Bet the locals who kept seeing us ride by thought we were just casing their little town.

So once and for all, we find a shady spot under a tree and with some cussin and button pushin, we get the GPSs in sinc and it looks like we are all on the same page.

We head out over the Ute Pass
