Never can understand why i get a few posts in my email and then they stop coming. When I go to the page there are days worth of posts. LOL

BTW I'm struggling with a choice here... Anyone had a chance to ride the 2012 BMW 1200GSA or the new 2014 BMW1200gsa ? and most importantly the new 2014 KTM Adventure R??? Im debating these machines if I can sell the CBR for a decent price. Also considering a sport tourer like an FJR I need something to go down to Florida on this summer with a buddy, and think the KTM is sold. mixed feeling on that but ... its life. Just looking for opinions on these bikes.

I'd be leaning to the GS's for highway comfort, they are mile eaters.
For the KTM, it has come a long way from the last incarnation, but not sure if you'd want the first couple of years of any production run in Orange.
Personally I've ridden both Gs's and KTM's on and off road and I'll just stick to my old beat up 950 as I can't afford any of the new iron

I hear ya, thats the hold back at the moment. I was gonna sell my 640 and cbr and buy the 1190 but wow after taxes its 24k stock. I agreed to sell so sorta hard to change my mind on the guy. But, I was debating maybe fixing up the 640 with a rebuild and try to dampen the vibes somehow. other then that its a good bike, but definitely needs a rebuild for longer rides. or pick up a sport tourer cheap or something until I can find a used GS/KTM at a reasonable price.

I just traded in a 2010 990Adv with 46k km for a 2014 1190R. I took the 990 to the west coast and back twice. I only have 800km on the 1190, but it's all the smiles of the 990 and then some. It still needs some tweeks (risers, decent wind protection, GPS mount, highway pegs) but I now expect it will be even more fun that the 990.... but it is tall.

I'd love to see one of these getting beat up properly.
So far the reviews are leaning towards a good platform..especially the R

Just read a review/ comparison between the Suzuki 1000 the BMW GS and the KTM 1190. They picked the KTM hands down. Go for it.

My 990 is the best bike I've owned by a mile. The only down-side is, as you've already discovered I think, is there is nowhere within several hours to service it. You either have to become a mechanic or be prepared to ride 3-4 hours one way for service.

I'm only 1:45hr east

Seriously man, do it yourself-nothing calms the senses more than working on the beast, I think Flanny has a video of taking one apart blindfolded, it's that easy

If we ever get a warm day afternoon I will assemble the band of SW Ontario merry misfits and make our way up there.

First ride of the year!

Its official I did my first ride of the year on April 27th! I got my supermoto set up for my DR installed and I will be using this as a commuting bike until the "trails" we have in the area dry up.

picks will follow soon but I added a rear back wheel with a 4.25" wide rim, I have a 17" front wheel, steel braided brake lines, some EBC brake pads, and a sumo front fender (no setup would be complete with out one)

The reason I didn't get out earlier?

I am also restoring an 83 volvo 242 turbo. Just got that running yesterday.

have a look at my build thread on turbo bricks.

Any trails around the London area? I'm looking at getting an XR650L but don't know where I could ride it... I'm right near Kilally Rd., so I know of that area, bit not much else.

Back from the south , not sure why though.
Got new rubber on the Dero and the wiring for the heated gear is installed.
Actually when for a ride the other day and survived.

Time to start getting aclimatized for the Yukon trip. (Sitting in the frezzer for 15 mins per day) or going outside.
