Hmmm... what kind of bike does a guy need to get through there?
Is the worst problem likely to be potholes or more likely to be swamp?

I used to run that road in the 70's been to the end many times. You see that Island at the end thats where it used to stop. I know it as the pipeline road.

pretty much anything will go back there if you stay on the main drag(s),,, yes, it wanders off into the swamps and Mystery creek comes over the road most of the time. It's gated a lot of times too, but easy to get around.

Watch for the feds
I haven't been on the road, just flown over it a number of times. But I've seen camper trucks all the way back. There used to be a federal marshal that would park his Pacer on one of the strips along the road to lure pilots in and then they would confiscate the plane. The Indian Creek landing strip is open and I've seen lots of planes parked in there. There's a permit caribou hunt for that area. Upper Indian Creek is where the Kenai caribou herd summers over. If you look at the satellite map there's a bunch of 4 wheeler tracks that head out toward the inlet. The wildlife refuge is known for being hard assed when it comes to wheeled vehicles. Heard about some hunters who were using a single wheeled cart to haul out a moose and they busted them and confiscated their truck and weapons. Maybe if I mount my 45-70 on a swivel on the handlebars I'll count as a hunter... They open the road during hunting season specifically for hunting. The rest of the year it's supposedly closed.

Surprise!... Mud
Finally went out there Labor Day and it's a pretty good road to a point. Many big puddles, the farther back the more puddles. Finally about 11 miles in there was a big bog that had been chewed up by 4X4's.http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sour...,0.011362&z=17 (stoopid me, didn't get a pic of it ) Looked about 3 feet deep in the middle and not something for a solo ride. Tried to tiptoe around the outside and stopped once, put my foot down, and there was no down to put my foot on. So Miss Piggy takes a nap... Beautiful day though. Bears pooping on the road, jays cussing, flies trying to suck your eyes out, and hunters driving real sneaky like. The best part of the road looks to be after that bog - probably only half way to the end.
