Alaska, The Rush is On

This afternoon I departed on from San Antonio Texas to Prudhoe Bay Alaska. Got off to a late as I had a dental appt. to set some crowns and it took longer than expected. Still made 500 miles today to spite not stating till 1300hrs. Stopped in Clovis ,NM which s only a few miles short of my itinerary. I don't expect the fist few days to be too exciting as I'm just in a hurry to get to Canada which is where I consider the trip to start. I'm open to suggestions and advice from the experts. My basic Itinerary is listed below.

I'm sitting in the north west corner of Nm right now. This whole region is very interesting with pictograph site and Aztec ruins. Rock formations are also interesting. Lots of laces I would have liked to stop if I had the time to spare. Weather has been great and only got above 85 in the last hour. Now onto four corners, arches np,and Price, UT. I stopped at the BMW dealer in Albuquerque for clutch fluid, but as it turns out I didn't need it.

Laugh My advice....

.... slow down!

Don't worry about making milestones on your schedule so much..... live in THIS moment .... don't project to some future goal and, thereby, miss what you are traveling through right now. Your trip began when you thought of it, not in Canada.

All that being said, I'm subscribed!! Have fun and be safe.

I know what your sayin'. My original plan was to have no plan. But then the motoGP looked like a good idea so I had to work around that. Then the Ferry trip had to be worked in. Then I decided the alcan would be a good idea. Then it occurred to me that I need some sort of Itinerary so I will know if I have enough time to do what's need. If time looks short I my bypass Inuvik. I would rather do Denali and go down to Homer. I plan to visit this area (four corners - arches, monument NP) next year with a buddy on our dirt bikes. I will be an RV trip with day rides. I was actually up here last year on a Continental Divide trail trip.

personally, I would suggest that when you get to Prince George hang a left then a right and take the Cassiar Highway (37) instead of heading towards Dawson Creek. It will come out on the Alcan 30 or so kms past Watson Lake, and is a much more scenic ride than the Alcan.......

Didn't quite make it as far as I wanted today. Stopping in Albuquerque took longer than it should. Stopped in Green River, UT which is about an hour short of Price. Tomorrow was suppose to be a short day so I should be able to catch up, and even more. Tomorrow I will try to make Missoula,MT and maybe try to camp. I decided to bypass four corners because I was running late. The big Rock at Shiprock, NM is quite a site to see. In fact there are many rock formations in the region that just seem to spurt straight up like a tree from the middle of a field. Its funny how most of us just see rocks as an inconvenience that chews up lawn mower blades. But when nature has its way the rocks can take on a beauty that cannot be put into words. I tried to add some pictures but there seems to be some kind of defect. You can see the pics here: http://satxriders.org/index.php?topic=6325.15

Yesterday was suppose to be a easy day to Butte, mt, but a late start combined with a delay tot the BMW dealer in SLC and an additional stop to fix my Spot meant I didn't get to Butte till pretty late. I forgot how late the sun sets here so I didn't have to ride too far in the dark to get to the hotel.

The GPS missed its mark by several miles 3 times in the last two days. I' not impressed.

The road from Price, ut to Provo was pretty nice. Price canyon looks like a pretty kewl place to camp and explore. I have video but I don't have to to edit and download. I'll post it when I get a chance.

I stopped at the BMW dealer in SLC to get a t-shirt for my collection but they didn't have any dealer shirts that fit me. I did buy a hydration pack for the Rallye2 and some Rallye3 GS gloves. Nice gloves - really helped with hand cramp. Good dealer with large selections of bikes and apearal. oday I head to Missuola then up 93 to Canada.

Once in Canada I will lose my internet service and my wifi has beengiving m trouble so I don't know when I'll be on-line again.

Hey James,
I think I'm going to do pretty much your same route next summer. Post more pictures so I can see what I'm in for . Looks like you're going to change out to knobbies? Are you carrying them with you?

Now that I'm in Canada I can slow down a bit. Actually, I really wasn't going all that fast and I did waist allot of time.

I had the tires shipped to a tent space contact in Prince George, BC. I may not switch them till I get to WHitehorse, but I don't like the idea of carrying them.
