Agreed. Same thing happened when I had my Safari w/ the new style bar brace. It nearly ruined a trip for me once. Luckily I saved the tab on my radiator, but not by much.

Be careful, especially if running a fresh knobbie & you like to test your fork bottoming resistance! With the new style brace, you might drill a hold further in on the bracket. With the old style round brace, not sure that will work.

Anyone know of a header guard for the vulnerable front right of the bike?

When I drop my SE, it tends to use the front pipe as a sidestand.

Im looking for opinions on some sticky track type tires for the SE. I've got a track day coming up on the 24th and don't want to use the knobs. Are the Pirelli Scorpions my best option?

I think this is going to highly depend upon your riding skilz. I like the scorpions but I can't out ride them like some. You could look for tires with a larger contact patch like continental attacks iirc they make 21/18. If you can out ride scorpions seems it might be time for second set of rims then you have a huge selection.

Thought about the attacks but they are expensive for just track day rubber.

You should be able to pick up some attacks cheap. Lots of the 1190 guys are ditching them for knobby's. I've seen some in the flea mkt

Check out the Anakee 3.
I have nothing but praise for the street manners of the metzeler sahara on the back with anakee 2 on the front and I believe the above might be even better.

i bought some nice orange bling ones on ebay - there held in with a small spring & ball bearings either side of the spring - was very fiddly to instal & very easy to loose the ball bearings & spring.

As for the 2 x ball bearings & spring they did not come with the aftermarket part.
best thing be bicycle shop for the small bearing balls (bearing balls need be just small enough to fit in the adjuster knob) - spring good auto/machinery parts supplier ? (the spring needs to be long enough for the balls to push out by 1/2) each side.

when installing use grease to help hold the balls in place & i used a small flat blade screwdriver to coax the ball to posh in so the adjuster popped back in the cap a extra person be a lot easier than doing on your own.

Safari tank brace - tire clearance?

So I recently added a safari tank and it came with the updated flat tank brace. I am also running Motoz tractionator tires and a blackdog skid plate. Based on some earlier posts I heard clearance can be an issue with this set up. So far I haven't ridden off road aggressively with the tank / tire combo. Today I put the bike up an a stand and took off the fork caps and compressed the suspension and sure enough the tire hits the brace. Taking off the brace I can get the tire to hit the radiator and back of the fender.

What is the solution? Is the tractionator tire exceptionally tall and I just need a smaller tire? I lowered the forks until they were flush with the top triple clamp and there is still contact at full travel without the brace installed.

Also found my steering head bearings are shot while I have it apart.

Trying to get the bike sorted for a trip next week.
Thanks,
Ken
