If you are riding your KTM and get pulled over by Johhny, the following wizdom by Stephen Wright might help:

"A cop stopped me for speeding. He said, 'Why were you going so fast?' I said, 'See this thing my foot is on? It's called an accelerator. When you push down on it, it sends more gas to the engine. The whole car just takes right off. And see this thing? This steers it' "

No that wasn't it... Oh, here it is:

"I got pulled over by a cop, and he said, 'do you know the speed limit here is 50 miles per hour?'. So I said, 'oh, that's OK, I'm not going that far.'. "

the guy is brilliant.

Eek close call?

Ah, had a long night with the lil' monkey not wanting to go back to sleep at midnight; so I overslept and left home about an hour later than usual. I go about 5 blocks to a freeway onramp, so neither the bike nor myself are warmed up to it all. I warmed up quickly this morning unfortunately...

So the shiz happens right away. I am accelerating onto the freeway and an entire wheel (rim and tire) bouncing about 30 feet in the air on the other side of the highway gets my attention. I watch it bounce once or twice, wondering where it came from and what is going to happen over there.

Just as I am realizing that I have my own self to take care of, I look forward and find out where the wheel came from: a bronco in front of me is runnin' on three wheels, and his axle is griding away on the road showering sparks!!! Now he was directly in front of me, but luckly he was pulling over gracefully, not crashing! So I got a nose full of fumes, perhaps some sparks showered about me, but... that was all.

Good thing because I just started riding again!

I still cringe at the thought of my friend riding the bike back from HK Cycles (numbnutz inc) in Modesto into the Bay Area with the triple clamp and front axle loose... bastages!

thanks for the thoughts you two. It wasn't hairy, but if the fella missing the wheel had been a wanker and floundered, rather than rode it out to the shoulder, I might have been part of his poor maintenance nightmare.
