Hack'n The TLH (U.S.C.A. National the hard way)

I guess I may as well start this now while I am sitting at my desk at work waiting for the day to end so I can hit the road. Short ride this evening, about 250 miles to Sterling, CO. I was going to leave tomorrow and blast to Des Moines but I figured I would get through Denver this evening and avoid morning traffic and then I'll have an easy 560 miles or so to do tomorrow.

Starting in front of the garage this morning:

I have to be in Ottawa on Sunday morning to meet a bunch of the Canadian bretheren for breakfast at their local Local Heroe's Bar and Grill so I guess I have a schedule to meet now.

At the risk of sounding lame...what's the 'TLH'?...for me it's the Trans Labrador Highway. Really fun road.

TLH is the Trans Labrador Highway to me too.

No pictures today, if you want to see Nebraska then go there yourself. Nice and comfy in my room for the night in Des Moines so I guess I'll figure out where I'm going tomorrow.

There have been several hacks on the TLH but hopefully I get the cherry on Phase III.

About 50km east of Labrador City, you may (I was there about 10yrs ago) see a small hand written sign saying 'water' on the right (south) side of the road. Stop and check it out. Finest H2O I have ever tasted!
Have a blast!

September is still fairly good...if you don't like the Buggies(Black Flies) then they're pretty much history at the first sign of frost. Can start to bet a bit nippy in the day and cold at night....daylight hours are starting to become a bit shorter.....BUT, hey, Man it's an ADVENTURE ..go Man go...We wanna you tell us about September on the TLH....

Real long day chasing ferries and such yesterday and I just got a shower and settled into my room in Ottawa since I need to meet the guys tomorrow or breakfast so I'll sort things out and get some stuff posted tomorrow f I get a chance.

One of the Canadian guys from British Columbia did a Winter ride on the Trans Lab on a hack, ride report on ADV. The C.U.R.D. folks do it every year on their Urals and such.

Chasing Ferries

Thursday night sitting in the room I started thinking and looking at maps and decided that I could make the 389 or so miles to Milwaukee in time to make the 12:30 high speed ferry run across Lake Michigan. I was on the road by 06:00 and pulled into the port in Milwaukee just in time to see the ferry taking off.

So a little break and a quick map check and it's North to Manitowoc to see if I can catch the afternoon ferry ride on the SS Badger. I forgot to check the times on the Badger but I knew it ran 24 hours a day so I ranup there. I pulled in just in time to see the Badger sailing away, strike 2. Next ferry trip is at 00:55 so it is going to be a long night.

Since I had a lot of time to kill I rode back down to Sheboygen for a good old Sheboygen brat for lunch and a cruise around Sheboygen. On the way back up I decided to swing by the Manitowoc Harley dealer to grab my brother a shirt and kill some more time.

Back by the ferry dock I was hanging out in the park at the maritime museum looking at the submarine and a parade started. Seems that the next town up was having their annual car show and the police blocked things off so the cars could parade through town.

When the parade was wrapped up I went back to the bike and there was a guy standing there looking at the rig so we started talking and he invited me over to the local American Legion Post for a fish fry for dinner. Nothing like good fresh Perch and Walleye fried up with cold German potato salad.

Back to the ferry station and a real long night.
