Earphones

My Etymotic ER6i's have used up the last of the noise maker in one ear. They had a good long life with lots of enjoyment on the road. So I need to get a new set, any suggestions, I don't like regular earbuds because they don't provide protection and tend to fall out. The only issue with the ER6i is replacing the filter all the time, I like the sound but you better take a few filters with you on a long trip.

Why are you replacing the filters so quickly? I've had mine about 2 months now and haven't changed them. dirty ears?

I just sucked it up and bought two orders of filters and put them in the little pouch with the removal tool.

I don't know of any similarly priced earbud that has the quality and noise reduction of the Er6i.

I'll buy another pair when mine finally wear out.

During the winter mine last several months.

During the summer, when riding for hours in hot humid weather, the oils and wax inside the ear soften up. It clogs the filters.

I must have strange ears. I've not replaced anything in mine since I bought them (~2 years).

I do wish they filtered more noise though. I've never found them to be all that quiet, and I've tried all the tips. Certainly nothing approaching real ear plugs.

Murine ear wax removal system. Or a ladyfinger maybe?

Molded ear plugs. You can have them with embedded speakers, our you can have them fitted with sound tubes.

After riding 8 to 10 hours a day for 14 to 30 days I had to change the filters out a few times, I am a Q-Tip after shower guy. I just call it an issue because you have to do that. I agree with Retro, during the winter I hardly ever change them but summer it does cause a few more changes.

Well no suggestions on other brands, I'll just order another set. I was just wondering if anyone had any other suggestions. Thanks guys, I really do enjoy the sound quality.

Putts is on the road, but his thread is still here:

My buds shit the bed as well and the er6is aren't available on this continent at the moment, so I'm looking for alternatives in that price region as well.

This prolly' oughta' be in Equipment but, since you were nice enough to post down here in the basement...

Thanks for following up on the thread. What do you think of the noise isolation? Quiet on the road? Better than the ER6i's?

I have to wait until Wednesday for the road test, but believe me, I will get a lot of riding and testing in. I have them in right now and I'm having a hard time taking them out.

I had the ER6i's for 4 years and enjoyed a lot of miles with them, last year they had over 18K on them. But the Klipsch sound so good I am very happy. Can't wait to get some road time. I will post a road test.

More power to you, but Etymotics are about $70.00 and the Klipsch are closer to $300.00.

Custom Molded In-Ear Speakers from the Earplug Company.

They are custom fit to my ears, block out wind/road noise and deliver great sound quality without having to blast the music.

I've been wearing them happily for well over 100,000 miles. No affiliation - just a happy customer.
