Curve Ball

It used to be a good secret if people didn't know about it.

So since I am not a belly icher, eight miles was a curve ball.

There are a couple of good swimming holes out on Hogs Back.

The Best known one is just a couple of miles out. It is refereed to as "The Cliff's. Just past the second cattle guard as you get up on top across from the old Bomb shelter. which is about a half mile past the actual Hogs Back. There is also a little bridge just as Hogs Back turns to dirt about 1 mile from 99/Antelope. It is headed North. out that road a ways after several "farmer's gates" you will come to one that is locked. Park there and it's about one and half miles into Tuscan Springs on foot. Goggle that and you will be amazed. anyway there are Hot tubs with bubbling water known to cure all sickness. you can light the air bubbles on fire as it is methane gasses. there was a couple of huge hotels out there back in the horse and buggie days and people would come from all over the world to be healed by doctors that would prescribe drinking from several of many different wells that where on the property . Anyway it kept burning down because the whole area is leaking the gasses. I can reach down with my lighter and light columns of air on fire that will stay lite until a gust of wind blows it out.
Anyway back to secrets, Damn computer, everyone knows everything now a days. However I will keep the location of the local naked Girls my personal secret.
A couple years ago Hogs Back road was very Hot, By hot I mean Law enforcement as well as community involvement. Kids where doing bad things out there. like taking pot shots at grazing cattle out at 2000 yards. they where hitting them and leaving them to die. I have also found Satanic alters with cows heads and more weird stuff than I care to share. I would not be out there at night without packing.

You're killing me Hop-sing! I've looked at that road and thought about running it but figured it didn't go anywhere. Never made the connection with the old resort that was out there.

As far as the local fillies, I am somewhat cynical about the quality... I could give you the number of a good optomitrist, perhapse she could help you out..

I rode up there today. The road to Tuscan springs has no tresspassing signs at the second gate. This could just mean that the landowner put up the signs after getting fed up with people driving the public road back to the end, and decided to put up signs claiming ownership of said public property, or perhaps the county did give up it's claim and responsability for the road.

I did notice that the bomb shelter no longer looks like it is being used by a bunch of tweakers.

No naked women. Though it is early in the season for them.

signs, Gates, and women.

I would have gave you an escort if I knew you where here today.
I am a local boy. those signs work for most. But I have a couple of things going for me. I know the law, and most the ranchers. in this case you cross other people's land but the road is still a county road. The biggest thing is not to set one foot off the road. Tuscan Springs Property is private, and for sale for around 4 million. My sister is considering buying it. most of the land between Red Bluff and Chico, {east foothills} is under the Nature Consevity act. Denny land and cattle leases and/or owns most of it. And again I am friends with their Land manager.

Naked girls

As far as the naked girls. if you know where the bomb shelter is. then right across the road is a little spur road that heads south about 150 yards. If you park there and walk down to the creek there is a world class swimming hole with cliffs up to 80 feet. in the past couple years they are cracking down on people going down there. it is a bit of a walk for most people. thus only fit people would go down there more than once. thus weeding out the fat girls. also the old ones. my eyes work pretty good, and my imagination even better. give a pm and we can meet. I promise not to be scary.

I figured it was like that. Not knowing the rancher I will not assert my right to travel on that road for now. I also knew the Tuscan Springs property was private, but figured it would be uninhabited and pretty much abandoned. It looks like a neat bit of land on Google Earth. I am sure being in a small valley like that could make for a good growing season and mild conditions for plants or trees. I am picturing a vineyard/B&B watered by the springs and powered by the natural gas.

Someone put up a bunch of fence around the area where the swimming hole trail head used to be. Not sure if this is the bomb shelter people or the "Quit shooting my cattle" people. You can drive a hundred yards up and take a right to another point and probably walk down there.

There is a spot even further up where it is possible to drive down much closer to the creek, but it looks like only one person has done it.

So, are you saying that you can ride up to the last green gate with the spikes on it but the property from there on, where the resort used to be is private and you would need permission? or are you saying that you can hop the fence and stay on the road as long as you don't step foot off of it?

My GF has never seen it and always wanted to but I wanted to do it stress free (legal or with permission),

I've been asking around for years but I can't get a solid answer or find out who I can ask for permission.

Permission

Permission is a funny thing.
If I give you permission it opens a liability door.
My son went out there in the past month. General practice has always been park at the green gate and walk.
until you get to the green gate don't take any side ventures. once over the gate you follow the road but once you get out to the palm trees you can walk around a bit. you are trespassing. But I have never heard of anyone getting in trouble legally. if asked to leave be polite and go on your way.
Back to permission... I have asked for permission to use peoples land. once in Oregon this guy owned about 1/5 of eastern Oregon. I went to him and asked. He laughed at me and told me he doesn't give anyone permission to use his land. he then explained to me that with or without permission he was going to run me off , IF , I was doing something stupid. but if someone was out there respecting my land I wouldn't bother them. So being a respectable thoughtful lad I then felt I had his blessing and I used that land. You don't take a star fish from the ocean, you don't tear up the ranchers field. and please don't shit in my back yard.

So Hogs back road, just rode by the dowdoer. then the next day it looked like this.. that would be yesterday the 4th of April.

As soon as any good lightning strikes, I head up here for the view. I watch as the lightning strikes the tower. what a rush. I have many stories from this activity.

we had a good view of the tornado, and got some good video of the water pouring of the side of the hills.

Cool pictures,

Thanks for your input on the Tuscan Springs.

I went for a ride out Colyear/Raglin today,

Raglin at the creek crossing was up a bit and didn't really want to chance it.

Colyear got muddy from all the rain, I have made a rule about waiting a couple days after heavy rain but really wanted to go for a ride...looks like I'm going to have to keep my rule,
I went up a few miles and was slip sliding around and didn't feel like fighting that today so I turned around and explored some lower elevation roads I hadn't been on in a while,
ran across a couple guys running R/C cars in the middle of the road who were charging their R/C cars from there Porsche and some other sports car, (I'll check the video in a bit-it might have been another Porsche?) I was thinking that their cars were awfully clean looking for being out that far, they must have been driving 2MPH the whole way...

Covelo

Had a full day off from work yesterday so I hooked up with my buddy from work who just bought a KTM 500 and headed to Covelo for a little lunch and A LOT of adventure... 300 miles, 14 hours doorstep to doorstep, lots of impromptu rerouting, a pretty crappy hamburger, Big tress on small roads, snow, and then we found a guy and his 2wd rental stuck in the mud 45 miles from Covelo asking if he would be able to make it the whole way. Couldn't have gotten any better...

The snow on this road was just powder and we plowed right through it before we rerouted to the highway

Thinking of heading back that way this Sunday if anyone wants to meet up...We came back on 162 the whole way after hearing it had been plowed. No snow planned between now and then so should be no issues. M4 is completely blocked with snow a few miles after the M9 ended and N2302 has a rather large tree to get over for those on larger bikes...Send me a PM if interested I'd like to leave pretty early..

Here's the whole Gallery link to our trip: http://ktmrider.smugmug.com/Motorcyc...8838453_dBQqmm

Very nice Jeramie, that's where I'm heading this weekend.

F7 and Alder Springs Rd. to Covelo is on my route. This could be an interesting weekend. Fun stuff.

Amazing way to start your trip! The snow on the pass near Black Butte mtn had just fallen the night before so will most likely have melted at least some..Lots of sun up there...Word of advise, stop in and check out the restaurant where the dirt turns to pavement again 12 miles from Covelo...(Near the RV park?) Not much to eat IN Covelo. Dan's restaurant hamburger wasn't spectacular. Have a Blast!

Thanks for the tip. You know me, early riser, probably hit that area for breakfast. I'm going to try really hard to slow down and take a lot of pics, make this last for 3 days.

Is Dan's the place on the North Side of the road past the gas station? If it is, I'd completely agree, not so good. When we road thru there last fall the place at the RV spot on the Eel was closed. Also suprised at how expensive the fuel was.
It would have been interesting to see your SPOT track but looks like you took it down - did you try to go out of Paskenta or did you go thru Willows?
