I'm guessing a KLR...I wouldn't feel it necessary to have a riding buddy unless you are the type of person who really wants to ride with one particular person. Generally, people who don't even know each other group up with like bikes/riders and have a blast...

You wouldn't be the only one going solo

KLRcharlie,

I'm trying to make it to this but I'm pretty booked up so it's iffy. Scheduled too much stuff for this summer!

BTW if anybody wants a ride around ThunderHill I'll be out there on Sunday in a white 2nd Gen RX7 on the north end of the paddock. Sign a waiver in the main building and then come out for a good sweat.

I am looking forward to this ride should be fun. I guess I need to buy a tent for the camping at wildwood small and light. I know Walmart has a two man tent that is cheap. I have a Tom Tom GPS but should I rent one from Ironman?

Like tweeder said you don't need a riding buddy. We always have several single riders show up, most will show up Friday night and camp. There they get to know other single riders that are riding the same types of bikes, and enjoy the same kind of riding. This ride has 3 separate routes, A, B, and C and each of those routes has variations different riders can try. This is the 5th year of this ride and I've never heard of anyone not having a great time no matter there skill level or what they ride. Most of our riders are from Northern California but we also get riders from So. CA. , Washington, Oregon and Nevada so it's also a great way to meet new riding buddies. Quite often I have guys who live in different parts of the country show up and ride together time after time. These organized rides are usually quite a surprise to first timers and a much better route and just better ride than expected. Since your not carrying any camping equipment on your bike just riding your bike is more fun. I rode over 3000 miles to come up with this route so you get the most scenic ride with no wrong turns and each track, A, B, or C is designed for your bike and skill level, so no one gets in over there heads. Well anyway I hope some more of the Chico ( and surrounding area ) Riders will try my rides, You'll probably be supprised at how much good riding you've been missing. You can Find out more about the Wildwood 400 and other rides here,

As far as the GPS goes-the Garmins Bob has are great because they are pre loaded with the track that your GPS probably won't pick up as they are off-road. Or, ride with some folks, make sure you stay together at turn offs, and you'll be fine.

Bob trys to hook up riders with other riders at the staging area, its better to ride with others in case of a flat or what ever,he does have chase riders though.

2. Yep, I got rained on but I really don't mind nowadays, I don't like riding when it's hot and we got gypped on winter this year in my opinion. I'm at the point now that I will leave to go for a ride even if it's raining.
3. no traffic at all...it was raining
4. it's supposed to be in the 80's tomorrow...that's too hot for my liking.
5. If you had gone with me I probably wouldn't have missed the turn off for Mule town rd...
6. the view at the top is about 10yrds when engulfed in clouds.
7. that road has unexpectedly steep spots.
8. conditions where moist and I was churning quite a bit of the way up.
9. I will go again when it's 70 degrees or less and clear so I can actually see the view.
10. hopefully I will have some pic's to put up if the lens wasn't too crapped up from water vapor(clouds)/rain...
You live in nor cal and 80 is too hot? It will be a very long time between rides at that rate.
Wait till sep/october and it will cool down maybe.

Yep, I do 99% of all my riding in the winter or as much as California in my area can be considered "winter", I live in a hole in the state, North of Chico through Redding gets bypassed by clouds because of the geographical area and I live right in the middle of it, I should have taken a picture of some of the radar images, the whole state would be covered by clouds except that one hole...
