I will have a tent with me next time I go out that way, there's a lot of neat roads to check out, swimming holes to try,its a neat area that doesnt seem to get a lot of use.
1 day out and back is way too long of a ride from Chico.

Hey, on my way back from Brookings today, I tried to go 101 to 169 thru to Hoopa. I fished the Klamath from the Trinity to Agnes all the time as a kid and wanted to find a route thru.

169 ended at the river about 5 miles in, couldn't figure out how to go any further. I think the road is washed out. Ended up going down 101 to 36 and across. about 300 miles today.

Has anybody done this 169 route lately?

I thought it did as well, remember driving down a rocky road with my dad and coming out at Orick. Looks like Chuck may have found side roads that connect, but it may go thru some pretty sketchy country.
I'll post some more up about our trip when I get caught up and see what is on the camera. 270ish miles the first day and ended up camping on Mattole beach Thursday night.

Oh, and which two of you knuckle heads were at Taco Bell in RedBluff yesterday afternoon about 4:30p.m.? The horse was in a hurry to get back to the barn after 300 miles so I didn't stop to say hello.

Looks like Bald Hills Rd. connects 169(where it ends) to 101 just north of Orick. Here is a screen shot where you cross the river to hit Bald Hills heading west to Orick.

Brian pulled up the right connection to the best of my recollection. It always seems different on the ground than looking at a map. Its easy to think 169 goes all the way because it has a connection on 101 up by Klamath. I didn't take the Bald Hills Rd. as I had planned. I have a new TKC 80 knobby for my front tire that I did not get mounted in time. I decided my worn out Tourance and alone on the dirt was not the best idea. I ended up going up to Happy Camp and over to O'Brien then to Crescent City.

As it turns out, I need to make another trip to Brookings either next week or the week after. I got the knobby mounted now and may try Bald Hills on this next trip. Anyone interested in a ride?

Chuck

Yeah Chuck, when I just looked on Google maps it looked like 169 stopped right there but on Google Earth it looks like it continues...You coming to the Rally this year Chuck?
