We used to do big ATV group rides up there in Brasher State Forest, stayed at the camp grounds right in town. One weekend we took the bikes (With the kids) and stayed in the forest over at a spot on the river, was a great weekend.

3.5 hours... not too far if the riding is good... hardest part is staying awake on the drive home!

You need someone there that can smash the brush-piles that are in the way!

We thought about smashing the brush piles but were with some newer riders so we went around.. This same guy has put up gates across this (public) road twice and now has moved on to brush piles

There is better riding to be had than this, those were just a couple teasers. come on up some time and we will make a day of it. If you like to ride it like a trials bike that is even better!!

It would be nice to get 5-6 experienced riders together some day, we could hit a bunch of the nasty stuff and the fun pavement in between

I am going to send an email to the DEC. Does anyone have any contacts there??

If we could get this one gate opened up there would be an incredible weekend loop that would require no back tracking. 25 miles of gravel road / two track back in the woods there is a river. The river has a bridge over it. The bridge has a gate on it. This is all state land. 2 miles past the bridge there is a public road. You can ride to either side of this gate but cannot (legally) cross the bridge. The DEC needs to remove the gate!!!!!!!! arghhhhhh this would be such an incredible loop to take a group of experienced riders on, with INCREDIBLE camping spot for the overnight. I have done it but would not lead others unless the gate was open, send help fast!

Is the gate at a bridge used as a snowmobile trail in season?

They gate some bridges like that around me because they aren't designed for cars & trucks, even though they'll support a trail groomer. I doubt you'd have much luck getting them to open it, not that it isn't worth trying.

Their argument would be that sooner or later someone would cross it with a car or truck. And of course, they would be right, someone eventually would.

I bet you are right but can not confirm. The bridge looks like it could handle logging trucks no problem, but you are probably still right.

Doubt anyone could even convince them to put in a gate with a snowmobile width opening because it is not legal for ATV travel back there and that is what would happen as well. What a mess....

I will find a way around even if it means paying dues to one of the bordering hunting clubs to use their gate!

Well It looks like I will not make many if any rides this season. I have been talking to the folks at the New York Safety Track over the last couple weeks and I have agreed to try my hand at coaching the Novice group at the track on the weekends. It starts this weekend so we will see how it goes! I could take a couple control riders, but I dont know any!

How about an old 1985 Suzuki GS700E? New tires, brakes, chain, sprockets, fork seals, all fluids, Oil plug is drilled for wire!

I just visualized hurling that wobbling tank into a corner a little toasty and trying to rely on the front end to scrub speed...brrrrrr!

No one said you had to ride that fast, it is the NOVICE group! I am taking the Daughters SV650S. And if the Gig works out for the longer run, I might leave the VFR there and ride back and forth instead of taking the truck or car.

Surely at some point the control riders will get to do a lap or three "at pace" to blow the cobwebs out after following the novices around all day?

Yes, But just how fast do you want to push a 1985 Suzuki, even with new tires, I know for me, I still want to come home at the end of the day!

If you go to the NYST site and hit the Facebook button, you'll see that they have just painted all the track bike to be used by control riders. You should get one of them. Forget that old hulk.
