Arriving at the “Tree” we are greeted by guests leaving and telling all of us “you better be hungry.”

We’ve been taking riders to the Tree for years. It is truly a one of a kind place and is owned and operated by one of a kind people. I look forward to every visit!

Here’s a short 3 minute video on the Tree produced by Oregon DOT.

Well, if pictures say a thousand words I’ll just let these speak for themselves!

Here’s my plate. I’ve been here enough times to realize there is no way I will finish the meal so I don’t even try…but this is the first time for some of these guys and a few others are slow learners!

Canadian Club in action.

Determination…

A slow learner. No excuses for Kyler. He’s been down this road before.

These hooligans actually finished the entire meal! Kyler, Pat and Chris. That means salad, beans, baked potato, bread, mason jar sized iced tea, nearly two pounds of meat…oh, yes and dessert. I feel a food induced coma coming on!

A few of us burned some calories afterward. What a meal!

Well, the night was still young and the bar was open down the road from our motel. Not expecting much we find the place is packed! Standing room only…and in a super small town. Turns out it is high school graduation night and all the parents and teachers show up after dumping off the kiddos. Was fun being a spectator. Didn’t take too many pics but here’s Canadian Club Joe working his “Mo-Joe”.

More on the Silver Lake Bar and Café later…

We retire to the lovely Silver Lake motel (the finest in town) and enjoy one of these under the bright Central Oregon stars.

Next up the rip rap rocky ride over the Black Hills.

Before we retire for the night here are a couple short “urban cowboy” vids.

Some of us awaken to a food hangover…or was it just “training”? We shall see over the next few pics.

The Silver Lake Motel is the only show in town. We regularly fill it up. The people are great and the town is small. A perfect place for a dirt bike dual sport pit stop.

The café/bar is a ¼ mile down the road. A long walk in the daylight!

Red and Dave discussing the next presidential election.

Kyler and Pat “in training”. These two guys finished a massive meal the night before. Let’s see what today brings.

Gearing up after breakfast, checking the bikes, GPS routes, etc.

On the trail we double back on the flat track section. Nice cool morning. Here are a few short vids of the area.

Chris

Mark, with his clothes on this time.

Aaron.

Pat winding it out on the two smoke.

Dave.

Canadian Club Joe.

And Red.

Remnants from a burn about 4 years ago.

After the smooth morning cruise we drop down out of the Fremont and connect with the official Oregon Backcountry Discovery Route #5 route. It gets rough and chunky from here to Christmas Valley.

Pat.

Mick and Chris.

Desert bloom.

Trail shots.

Nice one of Pat with Table Rock in the background.

Pretty desolate out here.

Gathering the troops before the hill climb.

Not necessarily a difficult hill climb, just a bit rocky, but the view from the top offers a super photo opp spot. I’m at the top now.

Here’s the view looking back toward Summer Lake.

And then one at a time we get some action shots. Here’s Chris.

Aaron.

Pat.

Mark.

Dave.

Joe.

Red.

And Bad Cowboy Dave airing out the front wheel.

From here we continue on the OBDR route. This will drop us into Christmas Valley for lunch.

En route a few more desert bloom pics. Not sure about the third one.

Coming off of the Black Hills the long stretch into CV.

We grab some lunch and tell a few lies.

Up next, Crack in the Ground and a mud bath!

For sure! Conditions were perfect! No air filter changes on that trip!

After lunch we head north out of Christmas Valley and make a pit stop at Crack in the Ground.

Some of the sandy roads heading out of CV have morphed over time into somewhat of a roller coaster ride. Lots of fun when they are dry but after a good rain, like we had a few days ago, they get filled with water and the moon dust turns into slimy goo. I usually try to avoid the pools as you never know how deep they are or what’s at the bottom.

Dave had other ideas. Must have been his way to cool down. I didn’t see it happen but was told it was quite a yard sale.

Here’s Dave’s once brand new helmet after taking a sand blasting.

And his control switch!

He’s okay physically but his pride might have been hurt a bit. I think this was his only get off the entire trip…but it was a big one!

On to Crack in the Ground.

Old Juniper.

A few miles later we decide to take a trail side maintenance stop and fix a flat on Pat’s bike.

Long cruising roads from here.

Here’s mud bogging Dave. We weren’t sure what he was doing until we realized he was actually walking his bike around a puddle! LOL!

Joe

Red and Dave.

Here we are about 5 miles back to base…and it started to rain hard. Most of us were in summer gear as it was quite warm. Felt good…at first.

Back at base we all enjoy a celebratory beverage and say our good byes until next time.

Dave and Mark.

Red

Our international friends, Pat and Joe.

The Roper connection: Mick, Chris and Aaron.

And the crew: Kyler, Dave and Mark.

Until next time!

Can never get to much of HDA rides through the High Desert! As a 2008 veteran of the same ride, it stirs my Viking blood to read! Thanks!
