Could have been required once last week....Montana? Idaho? Washington? Don't remember and can't care less, walked in with some cash and had a nice conversation with the locals about nothing in general.

A pleasant sunny day in the twisties they pointed me toward.

Just back from the US. My billing address postal code numbers + "00" worked for me. Thanks for the tip!

Frustrations

I was down in the US last fall with my son and the trick always worked for me but never did for him. We came to the conclusion it must be the Bank issuing the card that makes the difference. Mine is Visa from CIBC.

Sure, now I find this out after wasting time this summer at serveral stations in the South west US trying to explain to the guy that I want to fill the truck but it won't let me use the credit card without a zip code and I don't have a zip code. Well just pay with cash up front then...I want fill the the truck and I don't know how much it will be, can I give you $40 now and pay the rest after pumping...no...well then can I leave you the credit card and go pump...no...okay then bye bye. What a pain in the ass!

I'll be remembering this one for next time...thanks!

I have tried this 'secret method' several times (RBC Visa & BMO MC) and never had any luck, so I usually just pay cash

So I tried it in North Port Florida with Visa and it worked perfect. Some weird things were no one would change Canadian cash to US cash even though ours is more. Unless I had an account. And no one I came across had chip reader, it was all about the swipe. And at one place (An ice cream shop with the kids) my chip cards (non of them) worked even on the swipe.

Did they even know that there is a country called Canada? Get any distance at all (a few miles) from the Canadian border and they think our stuff is monopoly money.
Not at all surprised you couldn't use it in Florida.

The other funny thing is that out of the 100-150 bike i have seen down here, about 98% of them are wearing 0 Riding gear. Only about 2-3% wearing helmets How stupid are these people!! I know its hot and I know it looks SOOO cool to ride your Harley with nothing more than sandals and shorts but what a big red splat you will make when you go down. Man you guys are crazy......crazy stupid!!! Also saw a mid 50's lady riding a scooter, shorts, t shirt and smoke hanging out of her mouth riding on a major road no helmet or shoes............WOW.
